Job summary

Penn State Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) seeks an experienced Optical Systems Engineer in Freeport, PA to develop advanced EO imaging systems. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on sensors, lasers, and electro-optical technology, supporting Navy/DoD/IC projects.

The role involves design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and technological leadership within the EO program area, with opportunities to lead field tests and proposals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science required.
  • 19+ years of relevant experience if R&D Engineer - Optical and Photonic Systems (ARL) - Principal Professional.
  • 14+ years of relevant experience if R&D Engineer - Optical and Photonic Systems (ARL) - Senior Professional.

Responsibilities

  • Design and tolerance optical lens systems to meet performance requirements.
  • Perform analysis to validate optical system performance (MTF, distortion, stray light, etc.).
  • Collaborate on opto-mechanical designs, imaging sensors, and alignment.
  • Support field-testing of imaging systems and field tests events.
