Job summary

Flagship Pioneering’s Flagship Labs team is seeking a scientist with deep hands-on expertise in optical microscopy and vibrational spectroscopy to help turn promising biological observations into practical capabilities for a new experimental platform. You will design and execute experiments, collaborate with CROs and academic partners, and help shape the scientific direction of a founding‑stage venture.

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent in a related discipline
Hands‑on experience developing and applying optical microscopy and vibrational spectroscopy
Strong experimental background and ability to troubleshoot complex experiments
Solid understanding of optical instrumentation physics and engineering
Good scientific judgment to distinguish signal from artifacts

Responsibilities

Design and execute experiments using optical and vibrational spectroscopy to characterize biological systems
Own a portfolio of internal and external experiments across CROs and collaborators
Develop, refine, and document workflows, protocols, and SOPs for quality and reproducibility
Troubleshoot instrumentation and reduce experimental variability
Stay current in relevant fields to identify new experiments and applications
Contribute to scientific strategy and roadmap of a founding‑stage venture
