Job description

Summary

We are looking for an extraordinary optical engineer to join a team that is making a big difference in the future of Apple. A successful candidate will not only need to develop new technologies and architect novel optical modules, but also educate a broad audience of people at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs. The team features a broad engineering roster including optical engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, which presents a unique opportunity to influence and learn from a diverse group of experts.

Key Qualifications

• Capable of prototyping, conducting design of experiments, and analytical data processing
• Prior experience with executing failure analysis, building optical measurement setups, and performing hands-on measurements, preferably for imaging optics applications

Description

• Use geometrical optics or wave-optics simulation tools to architect new optical modules and to assess their expected performance and limitations
• Identify and implement optical metrics and specifications to deliver performance that matter to customer perception
• Identify novel characterization techniques to measure key performance metrics of complex and novel optical modules
• Influence product-level decisions using tools and methods such as simulation, prototyping and lab characterization
• Build custom metrology hardware and perform hands-on measurements in the lab
• Work with suppliers to develop optical modules, bring up optical test platforms, and perform statistical analysis of data to determine optical performance and quality
• Visit suppliers to support engineering builds, and help with failure analysis activities

Education & Experience

M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sciences or EE

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $300,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
