Job summary

IPG Defense, a stand-alone unit of IPG Photonics, seeks an Optical Engineering Technician in Huntsville, AL to support high‑energy laser systems. You will perform beam characterization, precision alignment, and optical bench metrology, while maintaining clean‑room protocols and safety standards.

You will build and test optical assemblies, document results, and assist engineering and manufacturing teams across the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or military optical/laser training equivalent.
• 2–5 years hands-on optics or photonics manufacturing experience.
• Proficiency with optical test and metrology equipment.

Responsibilities

• Execute laser beam characterization (M², power, wavelength).
• Set up optical test benches and alignments.
• Maintain laser equipment and document measurements in databases.
• Assist with optical assembly, splicing, termination and connector installation.
• Support manufacturing with quality control and troubleshooting.
