OSI Engineering in Cupertino, CA is seeking a Sensing System Hardware Engineer to join our advanced optics team. You will design and validate optical sensor systems, collaborate with Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Process Engineering teams, and help drive manufacturability and FA.
The role requires a degree in Optics or Physics (BS/MS or PhD), a strong optics background, and hands-on experience with Python/ Matlab; travel 10–20% is expected.
A globally leading consumer device company headquartered in Cupertino, CA is looking for Sensing System Hardware Engineer to join their team. The light sensing team integrates light sensors across a variety of products and is seeking someone who is a self-driven go-getter. Key Responsibilities:
Design and execution of system integration, test, and validation strategies for manufacturing new optical sensors.
Failure mode analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and system-level problem solving
Product simulation/analysis using a variety of software tools to support engineering validation and characterization (e.g. Python, Matlab, Zemax, LightTools, JMP, etc.)
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Process Engineering to deliver state-of-the-art sensing solutions
Analyze data to draw conclusions, enhance product design/manufacturability, and drive FA
Travel to support design/production/supplier teams as necessary(10-20%)
Key Qualifications:
Degree in Optics, Physics or equivalent. B.S./M.S. and industry experience, or Ph.D.
Strong background in optics, optical sensors, and optical measurements
Experience using Python, C/C++, C#, Matlab, or similar for lab equipment control, data collection, and data analysis; experience with ray-tracing or FDTD software is plus.
Experience with optical lab equipment (Power meters, spectrometers, cameras/detectors, oscilloscopes, optical tables, etc.)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; solid teamwork and leadership skills
Experience supporting volume manufacturing of optical systems is a plus (test, validation, FA, etc)
