Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Optical Coating Technician to join their precision manufacturing team in Irvine, California. This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and an interest in working with specialized production equipment. Previous optical coating experience is preferred but not required, as training will be provided to the right candidate.

Position Overview

The Optical Coating Technician will support the production of precision optical components by operating specialized vacuum-processing equipment, preparing and inspecting optical components, documenting manufacturing activities, and assisting with equipment maintenance. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with machinery and computer systems and be capable of performing highly precise, hands-on work.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate specialized vacuum-processing and coating equipment in accordance with established procedures and production requirements.
• Prepare optical components for processing and perform required post-process activities.
• Set up equipment and verify process conditions before production runs.
• Record process information, inspection results, and production data accurately.
• Conduct detailed visual inspections of precision components before and after processing.
• Review technical drawings, specifications, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
• Work closely with production technicians and engineering personnel to address process or equipment-related issues.
• Assist with routine equipment cleaning, chamber maintenance, and general production equipment upkeep.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Manage multiple production activities while maintaining accuracy and meeting established deadlines.
• Follow company quality, safety, and manufacturing procedures at all times.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical and technical aptitude.
• Comfortable operating machinery and working with computer-based systems.
• Ability to learn specialized manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
• Ability to understand technical drawings, written procedures, and manufacturing instructions.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong hand-eye coordination.
• Good visual acuity for inspecting small and precision-manufactured components.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in optical manufacturing, precision manufacturing, laboratory operations, semiconductor manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, or another technical production environment.
• Experience operating vacuum, deposition, coating, or other specialized processing equipment.
• Experience working with technical documentation and manufacturing records.
