Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in Debary, FL is seeking an Operations Technical Instructor I to design, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate training programs for operations, including line locating, leak investigation, leak survey, pressure testing, and gas measurement and controls.

You will identify training needs, develop materials, conduct OSHA/DOT/PHMSA-compliant training, maintain records, monitor qualifications, evaluate learners, and provide technical assistance across divisions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in the gas industry with operations background.
  • 2+ years of coaching, training, or education experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel ~30%.
  • Knowledge of gas distribution, transmission systems, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Identify training needs and create new materials for operations, safety and quality.
  • Deliver instructor-led operations, safety, and operator qualification training per regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and revise training materials to stay current with policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate training records with Training Coordinators.
  • Monitor operator qualification expirations to ensure current credentials.
  • Evaluate student performance and training effectiveness.
  • Provide technical assistance to divisions and outside agencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your role in our success:

The Operations Technical Instructor will design, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate training programs for operations. This role will provide technical and operator qualification training to operations team members in areas which may include line locating, leak investigation, leak survey, pressure testing, cathodic protection, underground pipe installation & repair, pressure control, overpressure protection, and gas measurement and controls.

What you’ll be working on:
  • Identify training needs, research and create new training materials related to operations, compliance,safety, and quality.
  • Conduct instructor-led operations, safety-related training, and operator qualification training and evaluations per Federal requirements (OSHA, DOT, PHMSA, etc.) for employees and contractors.
  • Develop and revise training materials to ensure materials are current and follow company policies andprocedures and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate training records in coordination with the Training Coordinators.
  • Monitors and tracks operator qualification expirations to ensure qualifications are current.
  • Evaluate student performance and evaluate the effectiveness of the training.
  • Provides technical assistance to the operating divisions and appropriate outside agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Who you are:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in the gas industry with a strong background in operations required
  • 2+ years of experience in coaching, training, or education preferred.
  • Standard driver’s license
  • Knowledge of gas operations, including construction, maintenance, distribution, and transmission systems.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and techniques used for adult education.
  • Experience in training, mentoring, or instructing, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel (~30%). This role will be based at Safety Town located in Dover, DE but may need totravel throughout our service territories.
