Job summary

Feed Energy in Pacific Junction, IA seeks an Operations Supervisor to lead the plant's operator team with servant leadership, ensuring safety and production targets are met. The role requires coordinating schedules, monitoring processes, and maintaining accurate records.

You'll oversee material flow, troubleshoot production issues, coach staff, and drive continuous improvement through SOP updates, training programs, and safety inspections, while upholding company values.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience in related industry or field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, customer service skills including ability to complete accurate records and logs.
  • Ability to effectively manage and interact with people on a one-on-one basis.
  • Ability to follow directions, interpret and work from written instruction, knowledge of basic math skills, ability to operate a computer.
  • Must have valid Iowa driver’s license and operate a motor vehicle. In Pacific Junction location, it’s recommended to obtain and maintain Class A CDL license. Feed Energy will provide company assistance.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, skid loader, and other equipment in a safe manner.
  • Experience with DeltaV and DCS systems; Automation and PLC systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and establishes work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Observes work and monitors equipment and processes to ensure Operators conform to production standards.
  • Oversees the movement of materials and products within the plant and processing of orders.
  • Maintains accuracy in records, logs, PIMS, and all other reports for day-to-day operations.
  • Reads and analyzes charts, work orders, production schedules to determine requirements.
  • Monitors inventories and completes month-end close.
  • Prepares records for Plant Manager to determine production requirements.
  • Inspects materials, products, or equipment for defects and informs maintenance of issues.
  • Works as a general operator as needed (≈30–40% of shift) with visible floor presence.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves front-line production and personnel issues.
  • Documents investigations for customer-related issues and performs root-cause analysis for deviations from PLI.
  • Monitors Operator morale and performance to ensure policy compliance and reduce turnover.
  • Oversees new Operator training and updates training per SOP changes.
  • Coaches and conducts progressive discipline with Operators.
  • Performs routine safety inspections with EH&S manager.
  • Demonstrates company values in everyday work interactions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

What We Need:

Description

Operations Supervisor provides supervision in plant operations to provide servant leadership to their employees. Oversees various operational functions and oversight of operator team. Responsible for ensuring Feed Safety/Food Safety by following all Safe Feed/Safe Food policies and protocols and taking immediate corrective action if safety issues arise.

Must be able to work the following shift, 2PM–10:30PM, Monday–Friday schedule and will transition to a permanent overnight shift as we expand operations, with advance notice. This position must pass a background check and drug screen.

  • Member of the safety committee and plant leadership team and routinely attends coordination and meetings for these groups.

  • Responsible for maintaining accuracy in records, logs, PIMS, and all other reports associated with day-to-day operations of the plant.
  • Reads and analyzes charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Monitors all daily and month-end inventories. Completes month end activities during close.
  • Prepares records and reports for Plant Manager to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Inspects materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions and ensures that maintenance department personnel are informed of any defects or breakdowns in machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Works as a general operator throughout shift as needed (approximately 30 to 40% of responsibility) and always maintains a visible on the floor presence in the production facilities.
  • Trouble-shoots and problem-solves front-line production and personnel problems, complaints, or concerns as they arise.
  • Assists in documenting and completing investigations for all customer-related issues and are secondarily responsible for root cause analysis of deviations from the Perfect Load Index (PLI).
  • Monitors and evaluates Operator morale, performance, and conduct to ensure compliance with existing company policies while reducing Operator turnover.
  • Oversees new Operator Training Programs and existing Operator training based on updates to SOPs and company procedures.
  • Conducts coaching, mentoring and progressive discipline process’ with Operators.
  • Conducts routine safety inspections of the facility and grounds in conjunction with EH&S manager.
  • Ability to demonstrate our company values in everyday work interactions.
