Job description

The OPS Chemist I position is located in the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Environmental Assessment and Restoration in Tallahassee. The incumbent prepares environmental samples for analysis of organic pollutants, pesticides, herbicides, and related compounds to support water quality impairment decisions and agency programs. This role requires knowledge of chemical laboratory procedures, data collection, and technical reporting.

Key qualifications:
  • At least 4 years of verifiable experience in chemistry, environmental science, natural sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences
  • Knowledge of chemical laboratory terminology, principles, and procedures
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and maintain accurate record keeping
  • Ability to prepare technical reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
