Qualifications

  • Demonstrated surgical competence and a track record (or strong fellowship training record) supporting independent practice.
  • Willingness to work a full schedule consistent with a 24/7 patient-access model, including weekends and evenings as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive surgical and medical retina care, including diagnosis and treatment of retinal disease.
  • Perform retinal surgical procedures and manage a full surgical caseload consistent with practice volume.
  • Maintain a clinic and surgical schedule that may include weekend and evening hours.
  • Build relationships with referring optometrists and primary care providers in the Binghamton/Upstate NY region to sustain and grow the practice's patient volume.
  • Participate in the equity partnership pathway available within the first three years of employment.

POSITION OVERVIEW

SightMD is seeking a Surgical Retina Specialist to join its growing New York team, with opportunities based in Binghamton, NY. This role steps into an established practice with a strong, built-in patient base following the retirement of a long-standing physician. Physicians also benefit from access to onsite ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), providing an efficient and integrated surgical environment.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide comprehensive surgical and medical retina care, including diagnosis and treatment of retinal disease.
  • Perform retinal surgical procedures and manage a full surgical caseload consistent with practice volume.
  • Maintain a clinic and surgical schedule that may include weekend and evening hours, consistent with SightMD's patient-access model.
  • Build relationships with referring optometrists and primary care providers in the Binghamton/Upstate NY region to sustain and grow the practice's patient volume.
  • Participate in the equity partnership pathway available within the first three years of employment.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • M.D. or D.O. with completion of an accredited Ophthalmology residency
  • Fellowship training in Surgical/Vitreoretinal Disease required.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Ophthalmology.
  • Must hold an active New York medical license or be able to obtain licensure prior to start.
  • Demonstrated surgical competence and a track record (or strong fellowship training record) supporting independent practice.
  • Connection or motivation to build a long-term practice in the Binghamton/Upstate New York region is a plus.
  • Strong clinical and surgical judgment in in the diagnosis and management of retinal disease.
  • Willingness to work a full schedule consistent with a 24/7 patient-access model, including weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach to practicing within a multi-specialty group.
  • Strong communication skills with patients, referring providers, and practice staff.
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care and the highest ethical standards.
