Job summary

IU Health is seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Assistant in Lafayette, IN. Schedule is 1.0 FTE, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Cert within one year of hire; textbooks provided and the first certification exam fee covered by IU Health.

You will prepare patients, collect histories, perform tests, operate ophthalmology equipment, assist with procedures, and maintain EMR documentation while supporting clinic flow and patient education.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 0-3 Years of Experience.
• Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, through the AHA.
• Requires knowledge of infection control principles.
• Requires ability to effectively prioritize multiple patient care needs.
• Experience with basic ophthalmic workup and testing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and room patients for appointments.
• Obtain patient histories and document relevant information.
• Perform ophthalmic testing and diagnostic examinations as directed.
• Learn and operate specialized ophthalmology equipment.
• Assist providers with in-office procedures.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation within the electronic medical record.
• Support patient flow and clinic efficiency throughout the day.
• Provide excellent customer service and patient education.
