Job summary

Associated Retina Consultants is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to perform preliminary patient work-ups and assist physicians during examinations. The role includes documenting encounters in the EMR, interviewing patients, and communicating follow-up care and scheduling.

Equipment maintenance and eye-drop instillation are required, with potential travel between ARC locations. The ideal candidate has a High School diploma, relevant certification, and strong English communication skills;

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; certification required or willingness to obtain OSC within 30 days of hire
• Ability to read, write and speak English effectively
• Bi-lingual a plus
• Six (6) months of outpatient or medical office experience preferred
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills
• Computer skills with data entry; able to type ~30 wpm

Responsibilities

• Perform ophthalmic preliminary work-up and assist physicians during patient examinations
• Document patient encounters in the EMR accurately
• Interview patients and document histories and special testing
• Explain follow-up care, surgeries, and scheduling to patients
• Maintain and clean all equipment; report irregularities to supervisor
• Instill eye drops and prepare exam rooms; check medication expiration dates
• Travel to other ARC locations may be required; attend staff meetings when scheduled

We work hard every day to protect and save our patient’s vision, helping them lead better quality lives.Position OverviewThe Ophthalmic Technician uses ophthalmic techniques to perform the preliminary work-up of patients, assists the physician(s) during the patient examination and documents the patient encounter in the patients’ electronic medical record as communicated by the physician.Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care.Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories and special testing.Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.Maintains and cleans all equipment being used and will report irregularities of such to the floor monitor or immediate supervisor.Instill Eye DropsClean and stock exam rooms as needed.Check expiration dates on medications.Reliable attendance and punctuality are an essential functionAccurately performs:OCTTonometry with Perkins and TonopenVisual AcuityAmsler Grid TestingMuscle TestingPupil ExamsConfrontation Visual Field ExamAttends staff meetings as required. Able to navigate between screens: able to accurately enter data. Able to type 30 words per minuteAmount of Travel Required:Traveling is required, and time may vary. May require sitting in a bus for up to 2.5 hours at a time.Work Schedule:To be determined by the needs of the practice Shifts can range anywhere between 8-14 hours. For the Phoenix office, Saturday hours are a must.
