Job summary

Florida Eye Specialist and Cataract Institute, part of the Sight 360 family, seeks an ophthalmic professional to join the region's premier eye care team. You will collect patient histories, perform refractions and tonometry, and assist with corneal/topography imaging and in-office procedures.

Ideal candidates have at least one year in ophthalmology, JCAHPO certification, and an associates degree or higher. Strong communication and multitasking skills are essential in our high-volume clinics.

Qualifications

  • Must have at least 1 year of ophthalmology experience.
  • Certification through JCAHPO preferred.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and record patient medical history.
  • Instruct patients on post-operative care, medications, and contact lens care.
  • Perform visual acuity testing and manifest refractions.
  • Perform Goldmann tonometry and pupil/response measurements (PERRLA).
  • Assist with corneal topography, retinal imaging, and in-office procedures.

Description

At Florida Eye Specialist and Cataract Institute, a Sight 360 company, we are building the region’s premier destination for comprehensive vision care. We are a team of over 400 optometrists, ophthalmologists, surgeons, opticians, and eye care professionals serving more than 200,000 patients across 25 different locations in the Greater Tampa Bay area. From routine eye exams and optical retail, to medical optometry, ophthalmology, and surgical procedures, our patients experience end-to-end personalized care and service.

Requirements
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Collecting and recording patient medical history
  • Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations.
  • Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) (Goldmann required)
  • Measuring pupil size and reactivity using PERRLA
  • Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function)
  • Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
  • Performing dry eye testing including Zone Quick and TBUT, Interferometry, brightness acuity testing
  • Participating in light cleaning of the facility
  • Maintaining a sanitized environment
  • Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography
  • Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts.
  • Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients
  • Assisting with Lasers or minor procedures
Working Conditions and Environmental/Physical Demands:
  • Standing/walking 95% of the day to perform the essential job duties.
  • Full body rotation (i.e., bending, stooping, twisting, etc.)
  • Ability to lift at least 20lbs.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Qualifications:
  • Required:
  • Minimal of one year in Ophthalmology
  • Preferred:
  • Certification
  • Certification through JCAHPO
  • Associates Degree - preferred
Skills and Abilities:
  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to perform manifest refraction is required
  • Ability to perform Goldmann tonometry is required.
  • Ability to effectively multitask
  • Attentive to detail and accuracy.
