Job Description

Nemours is looking for a Part‑Time Ophthalmic Technician to cover our satellite office of Kingswood, Wilmington, Delaware. The Technician assists and works under the direct supervision of the Ophthalmologist, performing preliminary examinations on all patients, including complete medical and ocular history, lensometry, stereopsis, color testing, visual acuity, tonopen, slit‑lamp examination, applanation tonometry, visual fields, pupil dilation, fundus photography, and OCT.

Essential Functions
  • Navigate and document patient information into EPIC Electronic Medical Record accurately.
  • Complete a preliminary ocular exam that includes a medical and ocular history, visual acuity, color vision, lensometry, cover tests, motility tests, stereopsis tests, external examination, pupil evaluation, slit‑lamp biomicroscopy, intra‑ocular pressure, refractometry, patching instructions, and contact lens fitting.
  • Perform additional technician responsibilities such as Humphrey visual field testing, OIS, fundus photography, OCT, and pachymetry when applicable.
  • Administer ophthalmic medications per approved clinical pathway and confirmed competency.
  • Maintain a par level of supplies, medications, and patient educational materials in exam rooms; ensure all equipment is functional at the start and during each patient care day.
  • Collaborate with physicians and supervisors to facilitate patient flow and maintain efficiency.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of associates per manager assignment.
  • Provide excellent written and verbal communication skills and uphold Nemours standard business practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Offer ophthalmic technician services in division satellite locations as needed, including travel to multiple sites 1–2 days per week.
Additional Requirements
  • High School Diploma.
  • Two years of satisfactory full‑time work experience under ophthalmologic or optometric supervision, or graduation from an accredited Ophthalmic Technician program plus one year of work experience. JCAHPO certification at COA, COT, or COMT level preferred. On‑the‑job training will be provided; candidates are expected to sit for the JCAT basic home study course within 3–9 months of employment and to qualify for COA certification within 12 months of hire. Failure to do so may result in termination.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of start date.
