The Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting surgeons during surgical procedures by anticipating surgeon needs to ensure the procedure is executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible. They prepare and organize the operating room, clean, and sterilize equipment, and maintain a sterile environment.

Responsibilities

1. Assist physicians during procedures, maintain and be able to:
2. Have a working knowledge of equipment maintenance and care.
3. Assist in the performance of surgeries, including biopsies.
4. Label specimens correctly.
5. Assist in transporting patients to recovery.
6. Prepare the room, anticipate, and check all equipment needs prior to procedures.
7. Treat family and patients with respect and dignity.
8. Carry out medical and procedural aseptic techniques and universal precautions.
9. Meet current documentation standards and policies, completing them during each workday.
10. Assist in positioning the patient.
11. Report changes in the patient’s condition or reports of pain appropriately.
12. Assist in code situations.
13. Maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and self.
14. Assist in managing supply levels by tracking and reporting needs to the Manager of Surgical Services.
15. Maintain logs for chemicals and equipment use in the cleaning area.
16. Comply with all HIPAA and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
