Job summary

Charlotte Eye Ear Nose And Throat Associates PA is seeking a compassionate Ophthalmic Assistant to support Providers with testing, exams, and patient care. You will perform clinical testing, assist with procedures, document findings in the EHR, and help keep busy ophthalmic clinics running smoothly.

The role requires a high school diploma and 6 months to 1 year of ophthalmology/optometry experience; ICAHPO/IJCAHPO training, COA/COT certification, and BLS are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 6–12 months Ophthalmology/Optometry experience preferred.
• ICA-accredited training or IJCAHPO/AAO independent study preferred.
• COA or COT certification preferred. BLS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greet, room, and obtain patient intake and history.
• Document history, chief complaint, vitals in the EHR.
• Perform ophthalmic workups: acuity, fields, tonometry, refraction, etc.
• Assist providers with exams, treatments, and in-office procedures.
• Serve as a scribe when needed, with accurate documentation.
• Schedule appointments and manage patient communications.
• Prepare rooms, sterilize equipment, and restock supplies.

In this role, you’ll perform clinical testing, assist with exams and procedures, and help keep our busy ophthalmic clinics running smoothly.What you will do:Greet, room, and perform patient intake, including vision history and chief complaintsObtain and document medical/surgical history, chief complaint, HPI, vital signs, medications, and allergies in the EHR.Perform comprehensive ophthalmic workups, including visual acuity, confrontation visual fields, pupil assessment, tonometry, keratometry, ocular motility, refraction, pachymetry, lensometry, glare testing, color plates, stereo testing, Amsler grid, and Schirmer testing.Complete specialty testing such as OCT, visual fields, topography, Pentacam, and biometry.Assist the Provider with exams, treatments, and in‑office procedures; administer medications as directed.Serve as a scribe when needed, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.Provide patient education and respond to patient questions and messages through phone or EHR.Schedule patient appointments, in‑office procedures, and surgeries; maintain Provider schedules.Manage work queues and index clinical documents into the EHR.Clean and restock exam rooms; sterilize equipment and maintain OSHA‑compliant safety standards.Maintain clinic supply inventory and place orders when needed.Support the onboarding and training of new staff and apprentices.Collaborate with Providers and clinical team members to ensure efficient patient flow and high‑quality care.Travel to other CEENTA locations as needed.A Typical DayYou’ll welcome patients, complete diagnostic testing, assist Providers with exams and procedures, document findings in the EHR, prepare rooms and equipment, schedule services, respond to patient messages, and help keep the clinic running efficiently.Build advanced testing and procedural skills, cross‑train with leading subspecialists, and help us deliver efficient, high‑quality care to every patient, every visit.Schedule:Shifts are scheduled between 7:30a-5:00p Mon–Fri; occasional early or late clinic rotation pending provider’s schedule.Ready to Apply?Join a leading eye care team and build your future in ophthalmology careers in Charlotte.
