Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an ophthalmic assistant to join a busy Charlton ophthalmology team. The role provides essential patient care, assists physicians during procedures, and supports room prep and patient scheduling. Expect a 40-hour work week, day shift, on-site in Charlton.

Qualifications include a minimum of two years in healthcare, a high school diploma or GED, and BLS certification. Comfortable with computers and medical workflows is required for success in this role.

• Basic computer knowledge is required.
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians in scheduled and urgent ophthalmic procedures and provide quality patient care.
• Stock and prep procedure room with instruments and supplies per physician preferences.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and oral medications as directed by ophthalmologists.
• Coordinate scheduling of patient surgeries and complete all related surgical paperwork.

Hiring Range:

$21.19 - $38.13

(based on a full time schedule of 40 hours per week).

Please note that the final offer will vary based on scheduled hours. Compensation for part-time or reduced schedules will be prorated based on scheduled weekly hours, experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.

Responsible for assisting the physician(s) in scheduled and urgent ophthalmic procedures, providing quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

I. Major Responsibilities:

• Provide attention to patients in a manner that builds confidence, trust and loyalty.
• Stock and set up procedure room with instruments and supplies based on procedure and physician(s) preferences. Economically mindful in the use of supplies and equipment.
• Essential functions include but are not limited to: History taking, Visual acuity measurement, Manual refractometry, Lensometry, Tonometry, Measure pupil size and reactivity, Test and measure eye muscle function, Visual field testing, Corneal thickness measurement, Corneal curvature measurement, Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement, Retinal thickness and topography, Fundus photography, A and B-scan ultrasonography, IOL Master, Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures, Surgical assisting including sterile preparations, BAT testing, Inventory of medical supplies, Obtains prior authorizations for medications.
• Administer topical ophthalmic and oral medications.
• Coordinate scheduling of patient surgeries and associated appointments. Completing all surgical paperwork.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

• Required:
• BLS certification.
• High school completion or GED.

Experience/Skills:

• Required:
• Minimum of two (2) or more years of similar experience in a health care setting.
• Basic computer knowledge.
