Job summary

Tennessee Retina is seeking energetic Ophthalmic Assistants/Technicians to join our team across multiple locations in Middle Tennessee. The ideal candidate will be passionate about high-quality eye care and excellent patient service, with opportunities for training and growth in a dynamic, tech-enabled environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • COA or higher is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.

Responsibilities

  • Performing patient workups, obtaining patient medical histories, and performing specialized diagnostic testing.
  • Assist physicians and have the ability to scribe.
  • Capture images for all physicians on the modalities OCT and FUNDUS.
  • Travels to Satellite locations
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms
  • Maintains a clean working environment, stocked rooms, equipment, and EOC guidelines
  • General clinic support functions
  • Must have the ability to perform well in a fast-paced, high-volume practice.
  • Continuous learning to advance to assist physicians and ability to scribe

Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • COA or higherispreferred
  • 1-2 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
  • Cooperates with supervisory staff, physicians, peers, external customers, and patients in a positive, energetic, and professional manner
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, physicians, management, and employees
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel Outlook) along with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software.
  • Proficient in understanding reading and interpreting all contents of the paper and electronic medical charts (ERM)
  • Meticulous attention to detail isrequired.
  • Demonstrates high-level critical thinking skills
  • Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and perform well ina fast-paced high-volume practice.

Maintains strict confidentiality regarding protected health information (PHI) and understands and adheres to TNR’s HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures.

Typical Physical and Working Demands

Position requires consistent physical activity, including prolonged walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential for operating a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, and specialized optical equipment. Requires the ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items, including optical devices weighing 15 pounds or more. Must possess standard hearing and near/far vision (corrected to normal range) to accurately prepare paper and MDI chart notes, communicate with patients, and generate reports.
