Job summary

PRISM Vision Group is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant for a full-time, on-site role in Westfield, NJ. You will support ophthalmologists and optometrists by preparing patients for exams, collecting medical histories, and documenting findings in the electronic health record.

You will perform basic diagnostic tests, assist with fundus photography and other imaging procedures, and scribe provider findings and treatment plans.

Qualifications

  • Clinical eye care skills and exposure to ophthalmic procedures.
  • Experience as a Scribe with strong documentation in electronic health records.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and foundational medicine relevant to eye care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for exams and collect medical histories.
  • Document clinical information in the electronic health record.
  • Perform basic diagnostic tests and assist with fundus photography and imaging.
  • Maintain exam rooms and equipment, ensure cleanliness and stock, and communicate procedures clearly to patients.

Role Description The Ophthalmic Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Westfield, NJ. This role supports ophthalmologists and optometrists by preparing patients for exams, collecting medical histories, and documenting clinical information in the electronic health record. Daily responsibilities include performing basic diagnostic tests, assisting with fundus photography and other imaging procedures, and accurately scribing provider findings and treatment plans. The Ophthalmic Assistant helps ensure exam rooms and equipment are clean, stocked, and properly maintained, and provides clear, respectful communication to patients about procedures and instructions. The role may also involve verifying insurance information, supporting patient flow, and collaborating with clinical and administrative staff to maintain efficient, patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Clinical eye care skills, including exposure to Optometry and basic ophthalmic procedures.
  • Ability to perform Fundus Photography and familiarity with ophthalmic imaging equipment.
  • Experience as a Scribe, with strong documentation skills in electronic health records.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology and foundational understanding of Medicine relevant to eye care.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management in a clinical setting.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work on-site, follow clinical protocols, and maintain patient confidentiality and safety standards.
  • Previous experience as an ophthalmic or medical assistant preferred; certification (COA, COT, or similar) is a plus.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework in health sciences or related field beneficial.
