Job summary

Clarus Eye Center in Lacey, WA is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians during eye examinations. You will prepare patients, perform tasks such as history taking, refractometry, and tonometry, and assist with clinical procedures under supervision.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of ophthalmic practice and one year of full-time experience as an ophthalmic assistant, plus a high school diploma.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Responsible for patient work-ups including history taking, refractometry, tonometry.
• Scribe physician examination data with knowledge of ocular anatomy and coding.
• Assist physicians with minor and advanced diagnostic procedures.
• Properly triage acute conditions in person or via phone conversation.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION:

Ophthalmic Assistant

REPORTS TO:

Clinical Operations Supervisor

POSITION PURPOSE:

Deliver patient care in accordance with standards set forth by Clarus Eye Center. Prepare patients for eye examinations by physicians. Directly assist physicians in performance of clinical tasks

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for patient work-ups. Tasks include, but are not limited to:
• History taking
• Refractometry
• Tonometry
• Responsible for scribing physician’s examination data. This includes but is not limited to:
• Intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy and terminology
• Basic knowledge of correct coding criteria
• Intermediate knowledge of ophthalmic services and procedures
• Properly triage acute conditions in person or via phone conversation
• Assist physicians with minor procedures
• Assist physicians with advanced diagnostic procedures
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of one-year experience in an ophthalmic practice.
• One-year full time experience as an ophthalmic assistant
• High School Diploma

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong technical proficiency and skills as outlined by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology
• Ability to develop positive working relationships
• Self confidence

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires sitting for long periods of time. Must be able to safely assist patients in wheelchairs and walkers.
