Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, seeks an OPEX Co‑Op to join the Operations Excellence team for 12 months starting January 2027. This full‑time on‑site internship offers hands‑on experience across Lean, Six Sigma, and data‑driven problem solving, with onboarding and mentorship.

You will support process improvements, collect and analyze metrics, map processes, and build dashboards using Power BI or Tableau.

Qualifications

  • Undergrad freshman year completed and enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s program.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Eng, Mechanical Eng, Chemical Eng, Ops Management, Supply Chain, or Business Analytics.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0 and eligible for a one-year Co‑Op assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning and execution of process improvements to reduce waste and improve flow, quality, and safety.
  • Collect, cleanse, analyze, and visualize metrics to identify opportunities and quantify impact.
  • Assist in root cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone) and track countermeasures.
  • Create and update standard work, value stream maps, and process maps.
  • Design, build, and maintain visual management boards and dashboards (Power BI/Tableau).
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings and present status updates to leadership.
  • Ensure activities align with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

We are searching for the best talent for OPEX Co‑Op to be in Gurabo, Puerto Rico.

  • The Co‑op term is from January 2027 to January 2028.
  • Full time requirement (40 hours per week).
Purpose

This one‑year Co‑Op provides a structured, hands‑on opportunity to support Operational Excellence (OE) initiatives at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Gurabo. The Operational Excellence Co‑Op will contribute to cross‑functional improvement projects that drive safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency using Lean, Six Sigma, and data‑driven problem solving. The role includes formal onboarding to J&J OE tools, mentorship, and opportunities to present results to site leadership.

You Will Be Responsible
  • Support planning and execution of process improvement activities to reduce waste and improve flow, quality, and safety.
  • Collect, cleanse, analyze, and visualize operational metrics (cycle time, yield, downtime, WIP) to identify improvement opportunities and quantify impact.
  • Assist in root cause analysis (5 Whys, fishbone), develop countermeasures, and track implementation and sustainment.
  • Create and update standard work, value stream maps and process maps to sustain improvements.
  • Design, build, and maintain visual management boards and performance dashboards (Power BI/Tableau).
  • Facilitate or co‑facilitate cross‑functional team meetings and prepare clear status updates and presentation decks for collaborators and leadership.
  • Ensure project activities align with site safety, quality, and regulatory requirements (e.g., cGMP).
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Completion of Undergraduate Freshman year at an accredited University is required.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Completed at least 3 years of undergraduate study (rising senior or equivalent).
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s program and eligible for a one‑year Co‑Op assignment for the requested term.
  • Availability to work full‑time on‑site at Gurabo for the full one‑year term.
Typical Projects / Deliverables
  • JJOS - Spearhead the implementation and advancement of Johnson & Johnson Operating System.
  • Support Smart Changeover & OEE– Execute Deep Dives on Critical Constraints Assets in the network.
  • IDEAS PROGRAM - Oversee Ideas Program and promote a mindset of innovation.
  • Golden Batch – Support Re‑Launch / Deployment, Governance Process, Workshops
Technical Skills & Tools
  • Strong analytical capability and comfort working with data; proficient in Excel (pivot tables, formulas).
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma concepts; coursework or practical project experience preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Exposure to process mapping, time studies, and basic statistical tools (Minitab or equivalent) advantageous.

Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with regulated environments and quality frameworks (e.g., cGMP, ISO).
