Job Summary
The Utility / Underground Construction Foreman / Operator will perform general labor duties in the field of telecom underground construction. Experience in telecom or utility required for the role.
Responsibilities
- Familiar with, and understand the use of underground utility construction tools; use of jackhammers/chipping guns, compactors, shovels, and other hand tools
- Drive to and from job sites throughout New England as well as perform general construction labor at the job site including loading, digging, and placing underground cabling that would vary in size, shape, and weight.
- Conscientious regarding the safety of oneself and the safety of every other crew member or individual on the job site
- Ability to make independent judgment and perform repetitive tasks
- Regular contact with co‑workers and customers; work as part of a team environment
- Travel throughout the region with the Underground Crew
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Active Class A CDL desired or an active driver's license in good standing
- MA Hydraulics IC/2B Hoisting license a plus
- Must be age 21 years of age or older
- Previous underground utility or communications construction experience
- Show up for work daily and on time and ability to follow directions
- Handle physical demands of construction duties
- Must possess and continue to possess a valid driver's license
- Within 90 days of start date, take and pass OSHA‑10 Certification; company supplied training
- Must be able to take and pass, and continue to pass a DOT Physical
- Due to the nature of the job, travel is a requirement; hotels are paid for and employee will be supplied with per diem
- Overtime is available every week
- Knowledge of materials handling equipment and procedures
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
- Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance
- Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
Work Environment
- Repeated and frequent ability to lift, from floor to above head 40 lbs
- Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity. Environmental conditions include heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration and very loud noise. Work is performed outdoors.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
Compensation and Benefits
Expected compensation includes $30 to $38+ an hour and benefits including medical, vision, and dental benefits, and 401(k) retirement plan available for eligible employees. Compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as an individual’s education, training, experience, skills, geographic location, seniority, merit, and other factors that are job‑related and consistent with business need.
