Job summary

NAES Corporation is seeking an Operator / Mechanic to support the Roseton Power Plant in Newburgh, NY. The role combines control room operations, field work, and hands-on maintenance to ensure reliable power generation.

Qualifications

Job description

The Roseton Power Plant is a 1,223 MW generating facility located in Newburgh, New York, overlooking the Hudson River Valley. Playing a critical role in regional grid reliability, the station offers the opportunity to work at one of New York’s significant energy facilities. Opportunity Summary

The Operator / Mechanic supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Roseton Power Plant through a combination of control room operations, field operations, and hands-on maintenance. This position operates and monitors generating equipment and auxiliary systems, identifies abnormal conditions, and performs inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive and corrective maintenance to support equipment reliability and plant performance.

Your scope of responsibility as Operator / Mechanic will include the following primary functions:

Plant Operations

• Perform startup, shutdown, operation, and monitoring of generating equipment and auxiliary systems from the control room and field in accordance with established operating procedures.
• Monitor instruments, gauges, alarms, control system displays, and operating parameters; identify abnormal conditions and initiate or assist with appropriate corrective actions.
• Adjust equipment and system controls as directed to maintain plant output and equipment performance within established operating limits.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections, operational testing, and condition monitoring; identify equipment issues and assist with troubleshooting process upsets and abnormal conditions.
• Maintain accurate operating logs, readings, equipment status information, and other required operational documentation.

Equipment Maintenance & Reliability

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including equipment installation, troubleshooting, repair, modification, overhaul, inspection, and testing as assigned.
• Troubleshoot and maintain mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including pumps, valves, rotating equipment, generators, and other balance-of-plant equipment.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance and follow established isolation, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined-space, working-at-heights, and other safe work procedures.
• Use hand and power tools, machine shop tooling, welding equipment, forklifts, cranes, manlifts, and other equipment when trained, qualified, and assigned.
• Maintain accurate work orders, equipment history, inspection results, and maintenance records using the plant's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Support outages, equipment repairs, and plant improvement activities while coordinating with plant personnel, contractors, and vendors to safely and efficiently complete assigned work.

Safety & Plant Support

• Promote a strong safety culture by complying with plant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements and perform other duties as assigned to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

Working Relationships

The Operator / Mechanic works under the direction of plant Operations and Maintenance leadership and receives day-to-day direction from designated shift supervision and senior operating personnel. This position works closely with other plant personnel to support safe and reliable plant operations.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Operator / Mechanic works a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between days and nights to support continuous 24/7 operations. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations and business needs and may also require callout availability.

Compensation

This position offers a starting base pay rate of $41.57 per hour.

Core Qualifications And Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical, vocational, power generation, or military training is preferred.
• Previous exposure to power plant operations and maintenance through relevant employment or technical training; fossil steam, boiler, or similar heavy industrial experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with power generation equipment and steam-cycle systems, including equipment startup, shutdown, operation, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the capability to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair pumps, valves, rotating equipment, and other mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and balance-of-plant systems.
• Hands-on capability using hand and power tools, machine shop tooling, welding equipment, and other maintenance equipment required for assigned work.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting operating procedures, technical manuals, drawings, schematics, equipment documentation, and operating data while accurately completing required plant records.
• Sound understanding of power plant safety practices, including LOTO, PPE, confined-space entry, working at heights, and other requirements applicable to an industrial facility.
• Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify abnormal conditions, support corrective actions, and collaborate with plant personnel, contractors, and vendors.
• Current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card or ability to obtain one upon hire.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
