Job summary

Qualifications

  • Have previous maintenance, mechanical, industrial, or equipment-related experience or equivalent education/training, preferred.
  • Experience with lumber manufacturing processes and production equipment preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Be comfortable using computers and maintenance management systems.
  • Have working knowledge of planer, sawmill, yard machinery and related tools preferred.
  • Be able to identify equipment problems and determine next steps.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers, operators, supervisors, and management.
  • Willing and able to learn new equipment, processes, and maintenance procedures.
  • Be able to assist others with training on equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement or corrective action.
  • Effectively manage time and prioritize maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Be willing to work in a fast-paced environment where production and equipment reliability are priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Millwrights with daily maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain machines and machine components.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools and lifting devices.
  • Install, replace, and adjust machine parts and attachments according to specifications.
  • Assist with repairing, relocating, or installing machines and equipment.
  • Lubricate machinery and apply adhesives or other materials per procedures.
  • Assist production operators with keeping workstations and areas clean and safe.
  • Participate in action planning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Accurately track and record time worked and parts used through work orders and the maintenance system.
  • Communicate equipment issues and maintenance needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist other maintenance and production team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The Maintenance Operator position supports the maintenance team by performing routine equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, lubrication, part replacement, and general upkeep of machinery throughout the lumber manufacturing operation.

This is a hands-on position that plays an important role in keeping equipment safe, reliable, and operating efficiently. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

What You'll Do
  • Assist Millwrights with daily maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain machines and machine components using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, and other equipment.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, hoists, and other appropriate equipment.
  • Install, replace, and change machine parts and attachments according to production specifications.
  • Assist with repairing, relocating, or installing machines, machine parts, and equipment.
  • Lubricate machinery and apply adhesives or other materials according to established procedures.
  • Assist production operators with maintaining clean and safe workstations and surrounding areas.
  • Participate in action planning and continuous improvement activities.
  • Accurately track and record time worked and repair parts used through work orders and the maintenance management system.
  • Communicate equipment issues, maintenance needs, and potential problems to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist other maintenance and production team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
What We're Looking For

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, stretch, twist, and reach for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the work shift.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Work around loud equipment and machinery.
  • Work safely while wearing a harness at heights greater than 4 feet.
  • Maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
