Job summary

JBT Marel is seeking an entry-level Operator, Machinist to join a multi-disciplinary production team in Sabetha, KS. You will learn to set up, edit and operate lathes and mills while maintaining quality and productivity targets.

The role shifts from day to night after an initial training period, supporting efficient manufacturing and adherence to schedules. The position requires good communication, teamwork and the ability to follow procedures, with a lift truck certification preferred.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship or technical school preferred.
  • 1 year of manufacturing experience.
  • Competency in MS Office and email.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, edit and operate lathes and mills.
  • Handle Rotary or Indexing with Vertical/Horizontal Machining Centers.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently with proper feed and speed.
  • Take corrective actions to address root causes of problems.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and assist with preventive maintenance.
  • Check parts to ensure they meet specifications according to print and production schedules.
  • Review production schedules, work instructions and inventories; operate with a certified lift truck.
  • Follow Company Safety Policy, including safety glasses and steel-toed shoes.

Job description

Operator, Machinist

The role is an entry level position where the operator functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support the organization.

Following an initial training period on day shift, this position will transition to a night shift schedule of Monday through Thursday, 3:15 p.m. to 1:45 a.m.

Essential Functions
  • Able to setup, edit and operate lathes and mills.
  • Versed in Rotary or Indexing capability as the application applies to the Vertical and Horizontal Machine Center.
  • Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner using proper feed and speed.
  • Takes corrective actions in solving problems to root cause level.
  • Assess equipment operating reliability and perform routine repairs, adjustments and malfunction troubleshooting.
  • Performs and/or works with Maintenance to complete equipment preventive maintenance.
  • Demonstrates high degree of ownership for product quality: check parts to ensure specifications are met according to print.
  • Understands production schedules, production computer systems, work instructions and production inventories.
  • Operates lift truck with certification.
  • Must review, acknowledge and follow the Company Safety Policy including Safety Glasses and Steel Toed Shoes.
  • Other duties assigned due to the need of the business.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
  • Manufacturing environment: may be exposed to loud noises, machinery with moving parts.
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, sitting for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50lbs occasionally.

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment.
  • Ability to execute agreed tasks and deadlines against performance criteria (KPI).
  • Result orientation, ability to follow through and respect deadlines.

  • Physical Capacity Profile/Drug screen required.
Education, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Completion of Apprenticeship program or Technical school preferred.
  • One (1) year of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline.
  • Demonstrated competency in computer and PC software including MS Office and email.
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles.
