Job summary

Bell County, Texas is seeking a dedicated team member for roadway and right-of-way maintenance in Central Texas. You will operate 6- and 12-yard dump trucks, inspect equipment, and assist with traffic control setups while following safety standards.

Under supervision, you will enter data into the roadway asset management system, assist during emergencies, and communicate effectively with the public and staff. A HS diploma and valid driver license are required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of related work experience.
  • Working knowledge of job-related technology.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English Language.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with roadway and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Operate 6- and 12-yard dump trucks.
  • Inspect and perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Set up and maintain traffic control signs and barricades per TMUTCD.
  • Basic computer skills including checking email and timekeeping.
  • Enter data into the roadway asset management system under supervision.
  • Assist during emergency events (e.g. flooding, ice storms).
  • Transport equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks.
  • Comply with safety standards and communicate effectively with the public and staff.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required.

Job Description:
  • Assists with the performance of roadway and right-of-way maintenance
  • Operates 6- and 12-yard dump trucks
  • Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment
  • Assists with the set up and maintenance of traffic control signs and barricades in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD)
  • Performs basic computer skills including, but not limited to, checking email and electronic timekeeping
  • Under close supervision, enters data into the roadway asset management system
  • Provides assistance during emergency events (i.e. flooding, ice storm, etc.)
  • Transports equipment, supplies and/or materials in light to medium trucks
  • Complies with departmental and county safety standards
  • Communicates effectively with the public and other employees
  • Attends all meetings and trainings, as required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of related work experience
  • Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
  • Must have a valid state drivers license
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English Language

Physical Demands: Position involves stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, climbing, driving and lifting up to 100 pounds.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):
  • Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather
  • Individuals may be exposed to heat, cold, loud noise, dust and hazardous chemicals
Special Certifications and Licenses:
  • Required within sixty (60) days of employment
  • Texas Class “A” CDL with Tanker Endorsements
  • First Aid and CPR
Required Equipment:
  • Must furnish a working cell phone capable of receiving and sending phone calls and text messages.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in a related field
  • One years’ experience in crew-specific tasks and the operation of related equipment
  • Knowledge of roadway construction
  • Commercial Herbicide Applicator’s License
