Job summary

Veolia North America seeks an Operator I to operate and maintain sludge processing equipment in an industrial refinery setting under direct supervision. The role emphasizes learning, teamwork, and safety compliance.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED and complete or possess essential safety certifications such as HAZWOPER and related training; progression to Operator II is based on demonstrated competency.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification or training is preferred for progression.
• Hazard recognition and safety training are required.
• Industrial basic safety training and Veolia safety modules are expected.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain sludge, de-watering, processing, disposal and testing equipment under direct supervision.
• Learn and independently operate pumps, centrifuges, valves, mixers, conveyors and related equipment.
• Collaborate in a team environment and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
• Keep work area clean and organized; collect samples and perform routine testing.
• Log process readings and perform unit rounds; assist with preventive maintenance and general upkeep.

Job Description

Position Purpose:

Employees with no prior, specific experience related to those skills and who hired into the company will start employment in the position of Operator I. These employees will advance in progression as they acquire new skills and demonstrate competency of the skills in accordance with this program. Employees may test for competency of Operator II no sooner than thirty (30) days following their most recent competency demonstration. However, successful competency of the operator skills training required for Operator II must be completed to achieve the next level.

The Operator I operate(s) and maintain(s) sludge, de-watering treatment, processing, disposal and testing equipment in refinery/industrial facility to meet customer specifications under direct supervision.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

• Must consistently demonstrate the ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets.
• Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, centrifuges, valves, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters, measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.
• Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
• Under Supervision perform the following:
  • Keep the work area neat and clean.
  • Collect liquid and solid samples and perform routine sampling testing.
  • Log and Record process readings.
  • Perform unit rounds.
  • Assist in facility equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Assist in general maintenance of facility equipment.
