Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming EMS radios and phones and routes calls to patient care areas with appropriate priority.
• Communicates patient information to Charge Nurse or Patient Flow Coordinator for placement and readiness.
• Monitors helipad, squad entrance, and trauma bays via cameras to support staff awareness.
• Liaises between EMS and hospital system personnel to determine trauma level and code activations.
• Ensures accurate documentation of logs, messages, and incident details.
• Relays critical information to internal and external stakeholders in a timely, professional manner.
• Records patient data in Carepoint and EMR; records radio/phone conversations for performance improvement.
• Initiates alerts through Red Alert system for code activations; updates as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Responsible for managing and facilitating critical communication functions across the organization to ensure seamless coordination of emergency and non-emergency operations. Serves as the central point for routing, monitoring, and maintaining communication systems, including radio, telephony, paging, and digital platforms.

Essential Functions

• Answers incoming Emergency Medical Servies (EMS) radios and phones and routes calls to appropriate patient care area. Places appropriate priority on calls received. Communicates all patient information to Charge Nurse or Patient Flow Coordinator to facilitate patient placement and staff readiness. Monitors helipad, squad entrance, and trauma bays via cameras to facilitate staff awareness and patient flow.

• Communicates with customers, including community EMS and system personnel. Acts as liaison between EMS and system. Collaborates with EMS medics and clinical staff in determining trauma level,appropriate code activations, and patient placement.

• Ensure accurate documentation of communication logs, messages, and incident details.

• Support internal and external stakeholders by relaying critical information in a timely and professional manner.

• Records patient data in Carepoint workstation and electronic medical records (EMR). Records radio and phone conversations for performance improvement purposes.

• Initiates alerts through Red Alert system for code activations. Updates alerts with required information, when needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

• Education - Job related course work beyond high school

• Experience - Two (2) years of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) field, dispatch, or hospital-based experience.

In Lieu Of

• In lieu of two (2) years of Emergency Medical Services, three (3) years of experience in hospital emergency department or medical services including direct medical care, nursing support, coordination of medical administrative services (insurance, medical records, admissions, etc.) may be considered.
