Job summary

King Asphalt, Inc. in Rock Hill, SC, seeks an experienced equipment operator to safely wield a rubber tire backhoe or trackhoe for grading and excavation projects.

You will inspect all fluid levels at startup, monitor gauges, and ensure safe operation throughout the workday. Responsibilities include minor mechanical adjustments, assisting mechanics with repairs, fueling, lubrication, and equipment cleaning.

Responsibilities

• Operate rubber tire backhoe or trackhoe safely for grading and excavation.
• Check all fluid levels at engine startup and monitor gauges throughout the day.
• Perform light mechanical adjustments and assist with repairs on equipment.
• Assist with lubrication, fueling, cleaning, and general maintenance of equipment.
• Perform tasks such as ditch cleaning, fine grading, shaping subgrades, base material work, and loading trucks.
• Work around utilities and overhead lines with careful attention to safety and minimal damage.
• Follow safety rules and company policies; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Purpose:

Performs duties to operate the rubber tire backhoe or trackhoe in safe and efficient manner to perform grading and excavation work. Job duties: Check all fluid levels at the beginning of engine startup for the day, monitor gauges and fluid levels throughout the day during operation. Monitor the operation of the hoe throughout theworkday maintain an awareness of unusual noises or operations and bring any exception of the attention of the supervisor. Perform light mechanical adjustments and/ or assist mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment, assist with the lubrication and fueling of the hoe. The ability to perform a variety of tasks which may include cleaning or cutting ditches, fine grading, shaping subgrades, base materials back filling laying pipe, loading trucks and hoisting. The ability to make cuts in the area of known utilities without causing damage to the underground utility, wok boom and bucket around overhead lines without causing damage. The ability to operate the hoe in a manner to assure the safety of personnel around the equipment. The ability to operate the hoe in a manner to prevent damage to the equipment or injury to the operator. The ability to operate the hoe around structures, tools and equipment so not to damage the structures tools, or equipment, closely monitor the position of the boom and bucket so as to not damage surrounding structures. Keep hoe clean and in orderly condition, keep tracks on trackhoe clean. Follow all safety rules and company policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:

Use of reading and writing, adding, andsubtracting of whole numbers;following of instructions; use of fixed gauges.

Experience:

Over 1 year and up to 3 years to become familiar with the operation of the hoe to obtain desired results.

Initiative and ingenuity:

Exercise judgment to comply with instructions or prescribed routines, methods or practices involved in the making of minor decisions with the limitation of standard methods and procedures.

Physical demand:

Light physical effort required to operate the levers pedals and controls on the hoe, occasional lifting or moving of lightweight materials under 25 pounds.
