Job summary

Rio Tinto Borates is seeking an Operator B- Certified Blaster to support blasting operations and safety compliance at our Boron, CA site. The role requires CAL-OSHA Blaster licensing, BATF permits, and a strong safety mindset in a heavy equipment environment.

The successful candidate will have 3+ years of blasting-related experience, a high school diploma or GED, and proficiency with basic math and radio communications. Excellent teamwork and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record for supporting workplace safety in a team environment.
  • CAL-OSHA Blasters license is required.
  • Must obtain Employee Possessors Permit from BATF.
  • Must obtain California Certificate of Eligibility.
  • Understanding of MSHA, CAL-OSHA and BATF explosive safety regulations.
  • Experience operating large (+100 ton) mine haulage and/or water trucks; blasting ops support.
  • Capable of maintaining production records and reporting; inspect equipment.
  • Ability to hear and be understood on two-way radio communications.
  • Capable of performing all other listed tasks and assignments.

About The Role
We are looking for an Operator B- Certified Blaster that has
  • Demonstrated track record for supporting workplace safety in a team environment. Must have CAL-OSHA Blasters License
  • Must be able to Obtain Employee Possessors Permit from BATF Must be able to obtain California Certificate of Eligibility
  • Must be able to understand and follow MSHA, CAL-OSHA, and BATF explosive safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating large (+100 ton capacity) mine haulage and/or water trucks. Experience in supporting blasting operations.
  • Must be capable of maintaining production records and reports as required. Demonstrated capability to inspect equipment and initiate corrective actions as required.
  • Must be able to hear and be understood during 2-way radio communications.
  • Must be capable of performing all other tasks, duties and assignments that may be required as part of qualifications listed above.
About You
  • To be successfully considered for this role, you will have
  • 3 or more years working with a Licensed Blaster
  • 3 years of experience in heavy equipment operation.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Must have an understanding of the electrical and mechanical functions of the equipment used.
License/Certifications
  • Must have current and valid state civil driver’s license.
  • Skills with oxyacetylene cutting, burning, or brazing and making electrical repairs.
