Job summary

Exyte is seeking a mid-level operator to support laser production in a fast-paced environment. You will operate and set up the laser, conduct routine maintenance, and participate in inventory control and paper work verification.

Emphasis on quality, safety, and lean manufacturing practices. You will learn all aspects of the Cut to Length line CTL and shear, perform pre/post verifications, and contribute to continuous improvement while maintaining housekeeping and compliance with OSHA and

Qualifications

  • Three or more years related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written technical procedures and cut sheets.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical skills including decimals, fractions, and conversions.
  • Measurement skills including tape measure, sheet metal gauge, and dial calipers.
  • Ability to identify problems, collect information, establish facts, and suggest solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Machine operation from set-up to shut down.
  • Weekly clean-up duties and daily tool board checklists.
  • Maintaining accuracy of parts and tooling maintenance.
  • Inventory control, perform cycle counting of steel (sheet, coil and structural).
  • Scrap utilization and disposal.
  • Troubleshooting equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • General housekeeping.
  • Pre and post verification of all parts.
  • Create a coil list after pre-verification.
  • Legible marking of all parts.
  • Learn all aspects of the Cut to length line CTL and shear.
  • Comply with Lean Manufacturing, 5S and TWI methodologies.

A mid-level position in a production environment with some experience required. In this area, you'll be required to: operate/set-up the laser, perform some inventory control duties, paperwork verification, label parts, coiling/shearing raw material, 5S and safety.

  • Strong mechanical ability
  • Knowledge of sheet metal layout (proper fittings), surface grinding and metallurgy.
  • Forklift certification (license)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality and safety
  • Willingness to learn the more complex aspects of the Laser operation
  • Willingness to work in other areas as needed
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Comply with health, safety, (including OSHA), and environmental procedures, and ensure the cleanliness of the area.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written technical procedures and cut sheets as well as follow verbal instruction
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical skills to include decimals, fractions, and conversions
  • Measurement skills to include tape measure, sheet metal gauge, and dial calipers
  • Ability to identify problems, collect information, establish facts, and suggest solutions
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, sitting, talking, hearing and use of hands in this support role is required Specific vision abilities required to include close vision, and ability to adjust focus Occasionally perform physical activities including lifting (up to 50 lbs. unassisted)

The noise level in the production area is usually moderately loud. The Laser department is a sectioned off area of the production floor.

  • Safety glasses and hearing protection are required when in the production area
