Job summary

Westlake Chemical seeks a production operator to ensure only quality-approved products are packaged for customers. This role involves loading plastic charges, inspecting molded parts, stacking shingles, labeling and packing finished product to keep extrusion lines running smoothly and efficiently.

The position requires standing 8–12 hours per shift, basic math, color vision, and the ability to read production schedules. A high school diploma and 1–2 years of relevant experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Comply with Safety Policies and Procedures
• Receiving and loading plastic charges (400F) into compression molds.
• Keep up with 4-5 compression molds, each cycle averages 22 seconds.
• Maintain less than 5% shorts (loading charges correctly).
• Reads Production Schedule boards and performs work as assigned by shift supervisor
• Inspects, feeds, and/or packs product for Work In Process (WIP) or finished product
• Detect quality defects in molded parts, trim the molded part and assemble the molded part
• Ensure that product has appropriate Lot Information printed on each product
• Attach appropriate labels to bundles
• Notify supervisor of any safety, quality, mechanical, or material issues
• Completes production documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor
• Notify Management/Supervisor of any quality or equipment issues
• Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility

The goal will be to help keep the extrusion lines running or the molding machines running continuously and efficiently while producing a product that meets or exceeds our customers' expectations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Work eight to twelve-hour shift
• Perform tasks as defined in Standard Work Instructions

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and training or certification in relevant skill or trade preferred
• 1 - 2 years' experience in a relevant field

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Must be able to work standing for up to 8-12 hours/shift.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, bend/twist at the waist, and stack parts at or above head height
• Must have full range of motion (ROM) of shoulders, knees, hips, elbows, wrists, and hands to inspect, pack, and stack finished parts
• Must be able to complete repetitive tasks to keep up with cycle times as fast as every 30 seconds
• Must be able to wear compliant ear protection if and when, working in areas exposed to noise levels above OSHA threshold limits
• Must be able to work in hot environments (Especially summer months) that can exceed 100F
• Wear all required personal protective equipment (Safety toe shoes, ANSI Z87 eye protection, CR gloves)
• Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
• Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
• Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders
• Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
