Job summary

EDL is seeking a skilled Operator to maintain and monitor a gas-fueled power plant in Michigan. The role focuses on engine and auxiliary equipment maintenance, data collection, and safety compliance.

You will work with fixed plant machinery, instrumentation, and process controls, performing fault finding and routine repairs. This position requires weekend and on-call availability, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel occasionally.

Qualifications

• Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.

• Experience with LFG extraction and use systems.
• Analytical and troubleshooting skills in mechanical/electrical.
• Minor repairs and overhauls on mechanical/electrical equipment.
• Familiarity with instrumentation and process control equipment.
• Autonomous work in a multi-skilled environment.
• Cooperation and communication with coworkers and contractors.
• Proficiency with computers, instrumentation and monitoring equipment.
• Basic electrical skills including fault finding on PLCs and HV control systems.
• Basic mechanical skills for fault finding on engines, compressors, pumps, valves.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Physical work: stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs.
• Occasional travel by car or plane.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain gas-fueled power plant with spark-ignition engines and auxiliaries.
• Comply with safety guidelines and OSHA regulations.
• Inspect and maintain fixed plant equipment (engines, generators, pumps, chillers, valves).
• Inspect and maintain gas processing equipment (compressors, aftercoolers, dehydration skids).
• Document and report equipment maintenance and operation.
• Fault-find and repair electrical and mechanical systems.
• Operate instrumentation and process control systems.
• On-call within 45 minutes of the station.
• Carry out routine housekeeping.
• Adhere to health and safety obligations.
• Support company policies; other duties as assigned.

Job description

Key Areas of Responsibility

• Operation and Maintenance of gas fueled power plant, consisting of multiple spark ignition reciprocating engines as well as all associated auxiliary equipment.
• Comply with all workplace, federal, state and OSHA safety guidelines and obligations.
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance of fixed plant equipment, including engines, generators and other auxiliary equipment such as pumps, chillers, valves etc.
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance of gas processing equipment, including compressors, aftercoolers, filtration vessels, dehydration skids, and the associated controls, gages and valves that support their operation.
• Administrative duties including documenting and reporting equipment maintenance, operation and condition.
• Perform fault-finding, repairs and reporting of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Operation of advanced instrumentation and process control systems.
• Available for on-call duties remaining within 45 minutes of the power station during these hours.
• Carry out routine housekeeping duties.
• Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations
• Support and comply with Company policies and procedures as advised and documented in the Company’s employment policies as amended from time to time and as directed by Managers/Supervisors
• In addition to the duties set out above, the Operator may be expected to perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the Company

Qualifications and Experience

• Current driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays and on-call hours.
• Maintenance, mechanical or electrical experience and/or suitable background.
• Basic computer operation including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to collect and interpret data and write clear, accurate reports and specifications.
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
• Experience with Gas and or Diesel reciprocating engines.
• Experience with Caterpillar reciprocating engines.
• Experience with LFG Power Generation Systems.
• Experience with LFG extraction and use systems and equipment.
• Analytical and trouble shooting skills in either mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and overhaul mechanical & electrical equipment.
• Familiarity with the operation of instrumentation and process control equipment and systems.
• Ability to work autonomously and self-motivate in a multi-skilled work environment.
• Ability to cooperate and effectively communicate with co-workers and contractors, sometimes during high stress situations.
• Proficient in using computers, instrumentation, metering and/or monitoring equipment to measure, record and make adjustments within operating parameters.
• Basic electrical skills with the ability to fault find and carry out preventive maintenance on electrical equipment, such as PLC’s, Generators, High Voltage and or Control systems
• Basic mechanical skills with the ability to fault find and carry out preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including engines, compressors, pumps and valves.
• Ability to read, write, hear and communicate adequately to complete job duties and responsibilities.
• The work is physical in nature. Ability to stand, sit, bend, squat, crawl, climb, stoop, walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Ability to occasionally travel by automobile and/or airline for extended periods of time.
