Job summary

Braskem is seeking a Plant Operator at Neal, WV to operate polypropylene production equipment safely and efficiently. You will follow procedures, monitor processes, and coordinate with maintenance and other operators to ensure smooth operation.

Requirements include six months in a chemical plant, a high school diploma, forklift ability, and strong safety discipline. The role supports Braskem's manufacturing objectives and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Six months of experience in a chemical plant environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and holidays with advanced notice.
  • Ability to drive a forklift and wear PPE as required.
  • General computer skills to operate SharePoint and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Operate plant machinery to produce polypropylene following established operating standards.
  • Trace piping lines, learn flows, and know where materials are going.
  • Monitor processes, take readings, and adjust controls to maintain set parameters.
  • Identify equipment needing maintenance and issue Safe Work Permits as needed.
  • Communicate with other operators and site management to coordinate activities.

Description

The Operator operates plant machinery and equipment designed to produce polypropylene, adheres to established operating standards, and remains vigilant about safety procedures and protocols.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Follows operating discipline, procedures, and practices to ensure a safe and efficient operation of assigned duties.
  • Trace piping lines, learn flows, and know where materials are going
  • Understand how the equipment you are operating works
  • Take responsibility for your training
  • Prepare for and work site Suture runs
  • Comply with Operations Clean Sweep Blue Standards in work processes
  • Comply with EPA Standards in work processes
  • Comply with OSHA Standards in work processes
  • Labeling Lines to site standards
  • Performs routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates, and to transfer products.
  • Monitors the process, takes readings, and adjusts controls to correct deviations from set operating standards.
  • Controls, monitors, and makes needed adjustments to all control systems and manually operated equipment.
  • Identifies equipment requiring maintenance, clears and tags equipment as required, and issues Safe Work Permits for maintenance and project work.
  • Uses troubleshooting skills to resolve process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems.
  • Product transfers and transitions as required by the Operating Schedule Category Activity Report.
  • Communicates and coordinates with outside operators, including the extruder operator and the product loading area operators.
  • Communicates and coordinates outside activities with other Process Operators, Maintenance Technicians, Production and Process Team Members, and Site Management.
  • Acts as a resource for other Technicians on job tasks and prioritization of work activities. Performs tasks assigned per task list, accurately completing all required paperwork.
  • Qualify in all Unit roles and assist with training new operators in your qualified roles.
  • Performs all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Six months of experience working in a chemical plant environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Wear Required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Capable of meeting the physical demands of this position, including frequent walking and standing; working in confined spaces; climbing ladders/scaffolding to perform elevated work; working with a fall arrest system; repetitive motion; and occasional lifting of weights up to 60 pounds.
  • Able to work clean shaven and wear a respirator
  • Flexibility to work overtime, if needed (including weekends and holidays), given advanced notice.
  • Be able to complete self-paced computer based training.
  • Have general computer skills necessary to operate SharePoint and Microsoft Office.
  • Be able to drive a forklift
  • Willing and able to be a member of the Emergency Response Team
  • Be able to clean
  • Solid inventory management skills
  • Solid organizational skills
Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience
  • 1 year of experience as a chemical plant operator.
  • Process Technology degree.
  • Previous Polyolefin operations experience.
