Job summary

RNGD is seeking an Operator to safely and efficiently run heavy construction equipment for infrastructure and site development projects. You will collaborate with Superintendents, Foremen, Survey Teams, and Labor Crews to meet production goals while upholding safety standards.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years of heavy equipment experience, proficiency with major machines, and a solid understanding of site safety practices and OSHA rules.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, wheel loaders, compactors, graders, and other equipment as assigned.
  • Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, loading, site preparation, demolition, and utility installation support activities.
  • Operate equipment in accordance with project plans, grade stakes, survey controls, and supervisor direction.
  • Maintain production goals while ensuring equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
  • Perform fine grading and precision work to meet project tolerances and quality standards.
  • Work around underground utilities, structures, existing facilities, and active operations while minimizing risk to personnel and property.
  • Assist with lifting, rigging, and material handling as required.
  • Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections; report defects promptly.
  • Monitor equipment performance and assist with troubleshooting when needed.

About the Role

We’re looking for an Operator that will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of heavy construction equipment in support of infrastructure, site development, utility, industrial, and civil construction projects. This role performs excavation, grading, trenching, loading, backfilling, material handling, and site preparation activities while maintaining strict adherence to project specifications, safety requirements, and production schedules.

The Operator works closely with Superintendents, Foremen, Survey Teams, and Labor Crews to execute work accurately and efficiently while helping maintain a safe and productive jobsite environment. Success in this role requires strong equipment operating skills, situational awareness, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Core Responsibilities
  • Equipment Operation
    • Operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, skid steers, wheel loaders, compactors, graders, articulated haul trucks, and other equipment as assigned.
    • Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, loading, material placement, site preparation, demolition, and utility installation support activities.
    • Operate equipment in accordance with project plans, specifications, grade stakes, survey controls, and supervisor direction.
    • Maintain production goals while ensuring equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
    • Perform fine grading and precision work when required to meet project tolerances and quality standards.
    • Work around underground utilities, structures, existing facilities, and active construction operations while minimizing risk to personnel and property.
    • Assist with lifting, rigging, and material handling activities when required.
  • Maintenance and Care
    • Conduct thorough pre-shift and post-shift inspections of assigned equipment.
    • Perform routine preventative maintenance including lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, and minor adjustments.
    • Identify, document, and report equipment defects, damage, malfunctions, or maintenance needs promptly.
    • Maintain equipment cleanliness and organization to promote safe and efficient operation.
    • Monitor equipment performance and notify supervisors of any issues impacting productivity or safety.
    • Assist mechanics and maintenance personnel with troubleshooting and repairs when appropriate.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site-specific safety requirements.
    • Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
    • Identify and report unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, near misses, and potential hazards.
    • Maintain situational awareness while operating equipment around personnel, traffic, utilities, and active work zones.
    • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure equipment safety devices are functioning properly.
    • Support excavation safety, trench protection, utility damage prevention, traffic control, and other project-specific safety initiatives.
  • Project Execution and Team Support
    • Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents, Survey Personnel, and Laborers to complete daily work assignments.
    • Interpret grade stakes, layout information, utility markings, and project plans as needed to execute work accurately.
    • Assist crews with site preparation, utility installation, concrete work, earthwork, and other construction activities when equipment operation is not required.
    • Communicate equipment needs, site conditions, and production concerns to field leadership.
    • Maintain awareness of project schedules and production goals to support efficient project delivery.
    • Participate in daily planning meetings, safety briefings, and work coordination activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5–7 years of heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Proficiency in operating skid steers, bulldozers, and excavators.
  • Knowledge of construction site safety practices and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to perform equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
