Job summary

The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA, seeks an Operations Technician 1 to maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair museum exhibits, including electronic and A/V devices. This role covers start-up/shutdown of exhibits, setup and breakdown of event equipment, and support for rentals.

The position is full-time with a Thursday–Monday schedule (11:00 am–7:30 pm) and offers team-based growth opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Training in a technical field involving electronic, computers or A/V equipment.
  • Experience as a museum technician or service technician.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Lifting is required under 100 lbs.
  • Ability to use hand, power, and shop tools, along with forklifts, scissor lifts, and pallet jacks.

Responsibilities

  • The start-up/shutdown of museum exhibits.
  • The setup & breakdown of all A/V related event equipment and event lighting, including providing technical support for museum events and rentals.
  • The installation and deinstallation of temporary (traveling) exhibitions as needed.
  • Assist with weather and emergency situations as needed.

Position Description

Operations Technician 1 is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing museum exhibits, including all electronic, computer, and interactive devices. This includes, but is not limited to, routine repair, scheduled preventative maintenance and cleaning of exhibit devices. The Operations Technician 1 is also responsible for the following:

  • The start-up/shutdown of museum exhibits
  • The setup & breakdown of all A/V related event equipment and event lighting, including providing technical support for museum events and rentals.
  • The installation and deinstallation of temporary (traveling) exhibitions as needed.
  • Assist with weather and emergency situations as needed.

Required Competencies:Must be eligible to join Internation Union of Operating Engineers Local 835.

Status:Full-time, 40 hours per week, (Thursday – Monday, 11:00 am – 7:30 pm)
