Job Summary
The Plant Supervisor is responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of Luminant Power Generating Stations, handling technical and administrative needs including controls, environmental compliance, safety compliance, NERC compliance, event RCAs, and other projects.
Key Accountabilities
- Support all aspects of day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of a generating station.
- Supervise and direct multi‑skill production and maintenance support personnel to achieve maximum reliable and safe operation of the generating units.
- Effectively manage employee/labor relations in accordance with company policies and labor agreements.
- Ensure and monitor safety, environmental, regulatory, administrative, and procedural compliance and documentation.
- Assist in coordination and implementation of special projects.
- Respond to emergency call‑out situations and help troubleshoot system problems.
- Interface frequently with outside vendors and contractors.
- Assist in planning and scheduling plant operational and maintenance activities.
- Review and analyze unit start‑up/shutdown/trip/upset conditions and document recommended corrective actions.
- Review and analyze equipment failures and document recommended corrective actions.
- Identify recurrent operational issues and determine needed engineering, reliability, or best‑practice methods.
- Be available on a call‑out basis 24/7 for operational issues or unit start‑up/shutdown problems.
- Meet with plant operators to review procedures, best practices, and progress toward targets.
- Lead brainstorming sessions to improve safety, unit emissions, production, reliability, availability, unit heat rate, and other OPI‑related targets.
- Coordinate shut‑down and start‑up plans for planned outages.
- Identify equipment efficiency, unit heat rate, and reliability projects for management consideration.
- Provide operator training to ensure best‑practice operations (safety, emissions, unit efficiency, reliability, availability, productivity).
- Assist coordination and submittal to the regions of all NERC compliance self‑certification and data‑request responses for the plant.
- Coordinate completion of internal NERC compliance audits and preparation of documentation for regional compliance audits.
- Provide assistance in NERC Cyber Security Standard implementation and compliance monitoring.
- Assist in EMS compliance and reporting.
- Ensure safety program is current and required training is completed by personnel.
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent; college degree programs or certifications may also apply.
- 5–7 years of power generation plant experience.
- Experience using Maximo for planning work, creating purchase requests, and creating job plans.
- Experience in operations and maintenance at a power plant, particularly control operator experience on a combined‑cycle unit, is preferable.
- Technical background or instrumentation and control background is a plus.
- Power generation plant supervision, leadership, communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills preferred.
- Good computer skills using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with computer maintenance management systems and an understanding of PMMS and/or Maximo programs preferred.
