Job summary

Schreiber Foods is seeking an Operations Systems Engineer to develop, manage, and support plant-floor systems including SCADA, HMI, MES, and historian data. You will collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, IT, and contractors to deliver solutions that improve safety and production performance.

The role leverages Ignition Perspective for SCADA and requires 5+ years in industrial environments, plus project management and system documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 5+ years in Industrial Control Systems or Manufacturing.
  • 3+ years experience in Operations Systems/Industrial Control Systems in manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI/MES/Historian/Reports and Ignition Perspective UI.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, install, and maintain SCADA, MES, and information management solutions (tag config, graphics, reports, dashboards, databases).
  • Collaborate with users and partners to identify opportunities, issues, and solutions for safety and efficiency.
  • Provide 24/7 issue support and proactive maintenance with cross-functional teams.
  • Plan projects, manage tasks, and document system changes and user training.
  • Prioritize requests and maintain a backlog aligned with stakeholders.
  • Implement PLC solutions and configure communications where appropriate.

Job Description:

This position is responsible for developing, managing, and supporting operations systems used primarily on the plant floor and by Operations leaders including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI’s), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), data collection (Historian), operational reporting and dashboards, and integrations with other company systems while also utilizing database systems for storing and retrieving data.

This position works with Operations Systems/Controls partners as well as Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, IT, and contractors to identify opportunities and user needs that will increase safety, operational efficiency, control, and performance of production assets and partners. The position designs and develops solutions, system modifications, and enhancements for productivity improvements consistent with company standards and industry best practices. The position also manages projects and contributes to the company standards and improvements in the operations systems/controls space with collaboration throughout the company.

Schreiber Foods has standardized to the Inductive Automation Ignition Perspective Platform for SCADA.

This role is 100% on-site at our Fairview manufacturing facility in Carthage, Missouri.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop, build, and install SCADA, MES, and information management solutions through programming/scripting, tag configuration, graphics, HMI’s, reports/dashboards, and database systems to gain the productivity and safety outcomes designed in collaboration with stakeholders and partners.
  • Design solutions to improve safety, efficiency, control, and performance of company assets and partners by working collaboratively with users and fellow operations systems/controls partners to understand opportunities, issues, and potential solutions.
  • Provide issue support, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance of operations systems, which requires 24/7 call availability, and engage appropriate IT, Maintenance, or other support teams for cross-functional support as necessary.
  • Manage projects and plan system implementations by considering impacts and risks to production processes and end users. Manage project tasks and communicate plans effectively. Build and manage system documentation and user training/guides for operations systems and changes impacting production.
  • Prioritize requests and manage a backlog of system opportunities for operations systems through alignment with key stakeholders and leaders.
  • Implement and support Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) solutions through programming, and communication configurations for situations where PLCs offer the best architected solution.
What you need to succeed:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in Industrial Control Systems or Manufacturing environment if no bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years experience in Operations Systems/Industrial Control Systems (within a manufacturing environment is preferred).
  • SCADA, HMI, MES, Historian, Reporting/Dashboard, and Programming skills (experience with the Ignition SCADA Platform and the Perspective User Interface module is preferred.)
  • Hardware and software configuration, architecture, and design understanding.
  • Database skills in tables, views, stored procedures, SQL queries, and reporting.
  • Ability to write software code/scripting logic (i.e. Python).
  • Understanding of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) concepts and programming logic and execution.Understanding of Industrial Control Systems and components.
  • Ability to understand production and manufacturing processes and concepts.
  • Effective Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to learn new technologies and software systems efficiently.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and lead individual and team projects.
  • Travel up to 5-10% for plant positions.
