Job summary

CHEP is seeking a Plant Operations Supervisor for 1st shift in Wilmington, MA to support the Plant Manager in running operations and delivering safety, quality, service, and cost improvements.

You will mentor staff, drive safety, manage maintenance, and lead continuous improvement while ensuring SOPs and regulatory compliance. Expect 1st shift 6am-2:30pm with 25-30 direct reports and weekly volumes of 40K sorted, 24K repairs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Operations/Supply Chain or related field.
  • Six Sigma/Lean certification desirable.
  • 90% of workforce is Spanish speaking; Spanish and English skills are valued.

Responsibilities

Are you ready to be part of a team that values safety, continuous improvement, quality, and employee well-being? CHEP is looking for a motivated Operations Supervisor (1st Shift) to join our team in Wilmington, MA!

As a Plant Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in managing total plant operations and delivering superior customer satisfaction by driving results and exceeding expectations in the key areas of safety, service, quality and cost.

Key Responsibilities May Include:
  • Provide hands-on leadership by mentoring, coaching, and guiding employees, addressing employee relations issues, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Lead and enhance safety performance on shift, promoting a proactive safety culture through training, accident prevention, and rehabilitation programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage shift maintenance activities, resolving equipment breakdowns in coordination with the maintenance team to maintain uninterrupted plant operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives on shift, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness across end to end operations.
  • Monitor and manage the plant’s operational costs and yield, working closely with the Plant Manager to optimize performance and contribute to the overall plant objectives.
  • Address performance and attendance matters in collaboration with HR, ensuring that all plant staff meet operational expectations.
  • Ensure full compliance with CHEP procedures and work instructions, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and in line with company standards and operational goals.
What You Will Do
  • Supervise the work of all production employees – oversees production and shipping schedules based on availability of raw and finished goods.

  • Provide hands-on leadership as a supervisor, responsible for mentoring and coaching all employees and working through employee relations issues.

  • Support plant administration to ensure compliancetoestablishedpolicies

  • Responsible, in consultation with Plant Manager, for the cost and yield performance of the Plant in partnership with the overall P&L of the Plant.

  • Support cost control initiatives and process control within the Plant.

  • Review operations activities, including local transportation activities, tomaintaincompliance with all Federal,Stateand local laws (OSHA, DOL, DOJ, EPA, FD)

  • Drive Safety improvements (Zero Harm) across the Plant

  • Ensure the consistent execution of all SOPs throughout the Plantin accordance withthe PMS Commercial Organization, Global Supply Chain

  • Deliver best operational practices and cost efficiencies across the Plant whilemaintainingcritical quality and raw materialutilizationstandards that are necessary tomaintaincustomer satisfaction and Plant profitability.

  • Ensure compliance through teamwork for all Standard Operating Procedures within the Plant

  • IdentifyLean opportunities to effectivelyeliminatewaste

  • In partnership with Plant Manager, provide leadership to Plant staff to effectively recruit, train, develop, evaluate, motivate,delegateandmonitortheir activities

  • Drive efficiencies in assetutilizationthrough proper transportation scheduling, dispatch, & driver management while meeting customer expectations

What You Will Bring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Operations/Supply Chain-or- relevant experience in a related field

  • Six Sigma/Lean certification desirable

  • 90% of workforce is Spanish speaking. Spanish and English skills are highly valued

Experience:
  • Prior experience in a plant supervisory role in an engineering or manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity with private fleet management/transportation is helpful

  • Strong customer focus orientation

  • Strong people management capability including non-exempt production workforce

  • Demonstrated success in delivering strong employee relations

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally

  • Experience managing safety performance and programs

  • Understanding of supply chain practices and metrics

The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $90,000.

Salary ranges providedtake into accounta wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications, geographic differentials and other business and organizational needs. Therefore, actual amounts offered may be higher or lower than the range provided.
