Job description

The Physical Security Installation Supervisor is a hybrid operations leadership and senior technical role. This position supervises assigned field personnel and installation activity while serving as the technical escalation point for complex CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection projects. The role partners closely with project managers, foremen, technicians, solutions architects, customers, and other stakeholders to deliver safe, high-quality installations that meet design intent, schedule, budget, manufacturer requirements, and customer expectations.

The successful candidate is equally comfortable leading people, coordinating field execution, reviewing drawings and submittals, programming enterprise security platforms, troubleshooting networked systems, and mentoring technicians through challenging installations and commissioning activities.

Key Responsibilities
Installation Operations & Team Leadership
  • Supervise assigned foremen, lead technicians, and field technicians, including scheduling, workload coordination, performance management, coaching, and career development.
  • Conduct documented quarterly performance and development conversations with assigned teammates and provide ongoing technical mentorship.
  • Coordinate with operations scheduling and project management to assign the appropriate labor, skills, equipment, and materials to each project.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between project managers and field project leads, resolving installation constraints, personnel concerns, technical conflicts, and customer-impacting issues.
  • Support project planning by validating manpower needs, installation sequencing, level of effort, site readiness, and execution risks before and during deployment.
  • Drive consistent use of company daily and weekly project reporting processes, field productivity tracking, and forward-looking planning.
  • Help field leaders understand labor-category budgets, productivity expectations, cost impacts, and the actions required to protect project margin.
Field Engineering & Systems Integration
  • Provide advanced technical support to field teams in project-site and lab environments for CCTV, access control, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Configure, program, integrate, test, and commission security software, servers, databases, controllers, networked appliances, cameras, readers, and other endpoint devices.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex hardware, software, database, communication, and network issues; document corrective actions and lessons learned.
  • Review blueprints, specifications, product data, submittals, as-built documentation, and system designs; identify conflicts and recommend practical remediation before they affect schedule or quality.
  • Assist with database maintenance, backups, migrations, system expansions, software upgrades, and technology refresh projects.
  • Provide field-driven feedback to solutions architects and engineering teams regarding product performance, constructability, programming requirements, and design improvements.
  • Train technicians and end users on system operation, advanced features, testing procedures, troubleshooting methods, and turnover requirements.
Quality, Safety & Project Performance
  • Conduct and document project QA/QC inspections, functional testing, commissioning reviews, and punch-list verification.
  • Ensure installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, customer standards, company procedures, applicable codes, and industry best practices.
  • Verify compliance with company, OSHA, customer, and site-specific safety plans; intervene promptly when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
  • Communicate outstanding issues, schedule risks, punch-list items, change conditions, and customer needs to project managers through timely verbal and written reporting.
  • Partner with the project team to anticipate risks and disruptions, develop recovery plans, and improve operational processes, field productivity, and project outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, testing records, redlines, closeout information, and daily reporting required for successful turnover.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school, associate degree, military technical training, or equivalent industry training preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience installing, programming, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting access control, CCTV/video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems on large or complex commercial projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading field teams, coordinating installation activity, mentoring technicians, and collaborating with project managers and customers.
  • Expert-level knowledge of electronic security installation methods, system architecture, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and QA/QC standards.
  • Strong understanding of IP networking, including TCP/IP, addressing, VLANs, PoE, bandwidth considerations, device communication, and basic server/client architecture.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, riser diagrams, wiring details, specifications, sequences of operation, product data, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate directly and professionally with technicians, managers, customers, trade partners, and design stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to prioritize multiple projects and technical issues with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the manufacturer software required to configure and support assigned security platforms.
