Job summary

Kinder Morgan is seeking a journey level, nonexempt candidate to support pipeline safety, maintenance, and customer service in North Dakota. Responsibilities include following safety practices, performing pigging-related tasks, maintaining ROW, and overseeing small projects with supervision.

You will work under general supervision, monitor for leaks, assist with line locating, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety every day and follow manuals and policies.
• Maintain pipeline and facilities, including ROW and equipment.
• Oversee small maintenance and expansion projects: scope, procure materials, supervise with supervisor guidance.
• Fill in for gaugers when needed and support on-call responsibilities.
• Monitor system issues and provide fair volume assessments across locations.
• Service and maintain field pumps and LACT units.
• Report leaks and repairs promptly to supervisors.

What We Are Looking For

This is a journey level nonexempt position and works under general supervision. Performs a variety of activities, including pipeline pigging, maintenance of right-of-way and grounds around pipeline or other facilities, maintenance and repairs on pipeline and pipeline equipment. Oversees construction of pipelines, line locates, and relief gauging.

What You Will Do

• Make safety a top priority each day.
• Ensure compliance with manuals and policies.
• Make environmental integrity a priority each day.
• Ensure the pipeline is maintained by following the pigging schedule, maintaining ROW, and repairing and maintaining equipment.
• Take responsibility for small maintenance and expansion projects including assessing scope, procuring materials and contractors, and supervising the work with the advice and assistance of your supervisor.
• Fill in for gaugers when needed.
• Monitor and troubleshoot Gain/Loss issues on the system, seeking fair volume assessments at all locations.
• Service and maintain field pumps and LACT units.
• Keep locations clean.
• Daily observe any traveled section of the pipeline for leaks, line markers, and needed maintenance.
• Perform line locating responsibilities.
• Report all leaks to your supervisor immediately.
• Report any repairs needed to the supervisor in a timely fashion.
• Keep company vehicles, field equipment, stations, and shop areas clean, serviced, and organized.
• Keep all paperwork and documentation required up to date and complete.
• Work with customers and fellow employees to provide excellent customer service.
• During on call status, individual needs to always have cell phone with them. Timely responses are essential.
• Follow company policies, practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Need

Education:

• High school degree or equivalent.

Required Qualifications:

• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer-oriented.
• Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to other employees of the company and outside contractors.
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out day-to-day operation issues.
• Ability to make quick and reasonable decisions in sometimes-adverse conditions.
• Valid state operating license with driving record acceptable under company insurance policy.

Working Conditions:

• Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment/tools.
• Climbs and works at various heights. May work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.
• Routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
• Regularly bends, stoops, moves from ground level to higher levels, raises/lifts from ground level a load up to 50 lbs., manually transports a load up to 75 lbs., and applies up to 150 pounds of torque.
• Regularly gets into and out of vehicles and rides over rough roads.
• Walks an average of 5 miles per day, up to 7 miles per day.
• Candidates may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Subject to overtime and callouts.
• Wears safety equipment as required. Because this position requires donning SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), employees must pass a SCBA fit test and screening as a condition of employment.
• Works mostly outdoors, in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment.
• Required to climb equipment and work in confined areas (i.e., tanks, between compressors, vessels).
• May be subject to work in hazardous conditions including hydrocarbon vapor, adverse weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.
