Job summary

Woodside Energy is seeking an Operations Shift Trainer to support the Louisiana LNG facility. The role focuses on developing and delivering structured training, including field and simulator sessions, to ensure operators meet safety and performance standards.

You will manage schedules, maintain LMS records, and drive competency across the shift team, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years industry experience in training and development, preferably LNG/oil & gas.
  • Strong knowledge of competency assurance and technical training.
  • Experience with Operator Training Simulator (OTS) lifecycle stages (MAT/FAT/SAT).
  • Ability to lead a large multi-skilled team and influence across levels.
  • Proficiency with LMS and training technologies; strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously improve Louisiana LNG facility training programs.
  • Coordinate field and simulator-based training, ensuring regulatory and company standards are met.
  • Manage training schedules, logistics, and LMS documentation.
  • Provide coaching and certification tracking for operators and technicians.
  • Generate training metrics and reports for the Lead Operations Trainer.

Purpose

The Operations Shift Trainer reports to the Lead Operations Trainer and supports the development, implementation, delivery, and continuous improvement of the Louisiana LNG Operations Training and Competency Program. The role provides shift-based training support, field training coordination, Operator Training Simulator instruction, competency assurance support, and training compliance oversight to ensure operations personnel are prepared to operate the facility safely, reliably, and in accordance with applicable Federal, State, Local, company, safety, environmental, and process safety requirements.

The Operations Shift Trainer plays a key role in building and maintaining operational capability across the Louisiana LNG facility. This includes supporting field and control room operator development, delivering structured training, maintaining training standards, supporting competency verification, and ensuring training activities remain consistent with operating requirements, regulatory expectations, and LNG industry best practices.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities
HSEQ & Process Safety
  • Provide input ensuring facilities meet licence to operate and regulated role compliance.
  • Support, leading and motivating team members to achieve the Process Safety Management Procedure requirements.
  • Provide input to risk identification and assessments to ensure conformance.
  • Provide input to permit to work governance, process and permit requirements.
  • Support, the management of pre-operations project risks and identification and management of carryover risks into the operations phase.
LEADERSHIP
  • Support LALNG Training and Competency delivery and alignment of project and asset.
  • Assign responsibilities and ensure the effective delivery of training sessions and competency assessments.
EXCELLENCE
  • Provide input for ensuring the facility has the required level of competence and capability prior to RFSU of a project to Run- and-Maintain operating facility.
WORK PROCESSES & SYSTEMS
  • Oversee site-specific training programs to support technical and non-technical staff development.
  • Develop OTS/Field training courses, and programs to meet or exceed company requirements, best practices, and established standards.
  • Ensure training programs align with company goals, operational requirements, industry best practices, all regulatory and company-specific compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Lead Operations Trainer to maintain consistency for the LALNG training and competency program for the multiple facilities.
  • Deliver training programs, including classroom, on-the-job, and simulation-based training.
  • Ensure training programs meet all regulatory and company-specific compliance requirements.
  • Work with the Lead Operations Trainer to manage training schedules, logistics, and documentation through the LMS system.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of training participation, completion, and certification renewals through the LMS system.
  • Generate and present training metrics and reports to the Lead Operations Trainer.
  • Support the development and implementation of OTS/Field training and competency programs for the Louisiana LNG facility.
Skills and Experience
  • Strong knowledge of competency assurance and technical training.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training technologies.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Ability to influence and earn credibility across all levels of the organisation including contractors.
  • Demonstrated experience in the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) lifecycle, including involvement in Model Acceptance Testing (MAT), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), simulator validation, performance testing, and readiness assurance activities.
  • Proven ability to develop, validate, maintain, and deliver scenario-based OTS training programs that support operational readiness, start-up, shutdown, upset response, emergency operations, competency development, and ongoing workforce capability assurance.
  • Strong understanding of OTS governance, configuration control, simulator model fidelity verification, change management, and long-term simulator maintenance to ensure the OTS remains fit-for-purpose for training, assessment, requalification, and operational support throughout the asset lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated sound safety-based leadership and demonstrated ability to provide coaching to project personnel to ensure HSE in design and execution activities maintains a high focus.
  • Ability to lead a large multi-skilled team, with positive influence on team and organisation
  • Greater than 5 years industry experience in training and development, preferably in the LNG, oil & gas, or energy industry. Experience in an operational position, or 5 years with specific asset class (e.g. LNG, FPSO, Platform) preferred.
  • In depth and demonstrated knowledge of the project issues including safety and integrity requirements
  • In depth understanding and knowledge of Woodside processes and systems.
  • Knowledge in Process Safety Critical Role Competency
  • Understanding of engineering requirements for legislative, regulatory and business process compliance
  • Required to climb stairs/ladders, use computers, and lift equipment/training materials
