Job summary

Lumos is hiring an Operations Service Technician I in High Point, NC. You will install, test, and maintain fiber services for homes and businesses, working onsite with customers and across the Service Operations Center.

The role covers provisioning, testing, and troubleshooting of GPON/PON, routers, switches, and cross-connects, with a hybrid schedule dispatching to customer sites. Ideal candidates have 0+ years of related experience, a valid driver’s license, and are comfortable with schedule

Qualifications

• 0+ years of related experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid, fully unencumbered Driver’s License required.
• Must reside within 30 minutes of the normal reporting location.
• Experience interacting directly with customers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Experience using MS Office Suite.
• Available for various schedules, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on‑call duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Installs & troubleshoots basic Voice, Data, and Video services on fiber networks.
• Performs data entry tasks: updating trouble tickets, processing orders, completing timesheets, provisioning systems & equipment, and updating internet service.
• Provisions & configures Wi‑Fi: SSID settings, Guest Network Access & firewall options.
• Troubleshoots and resolves wireless connectivity issues.
• Installs and troubleshoots customer on‑premise equipment (gateways, routers, switches, security systems).
• Installs and troubleshoot circuits (Voice, Broadband).
• Performs other duties and participates in cross‑functional projects.

Lumos is looking for an Operations Service Technician I to bring the future of connectivity to our customers. In this role, you'll be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining services and equipment in homes and businesses. Technicians set up fiber facilities, including Multi-Ports, and remove company-owned ONTs as needed. You will handle provisioning, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of GPON/PON, routers, switches, DSL equipment, and more. Additionally, you’ll install cross-connects at cross-connect and LCC cabinets for fiber circuits. Working onsite with customers and in collaboration with our Service Operations Center (SOC), you’ll play a key role in ensuring seamless connectivity.

***Hybrid Position - dispatches to customer sites in accordance with daily schedule.***

What You'll Do:

• Installs & troubleshoots basic Voice, Data, and Video services on fiber networks.

• Training Components – Technician I (Non‑Inclusive):
  • Training may include Zhone, SmartRG, AirTies, cabling and testing, Light Level Meter operation, and other relevant training as deemed necessary.

What You'll Bring:

• 0+ years of related experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Experience interacting directly with customers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

Physical Requirements:

• Capable of lifting and transporting 50 lbs. over a distance of 50 feet.
• Near-constant use of sight, speech, hearing, comprehension, and reasoning.
