Job summary

Sunpro is seeking an Operations Manager, Building Materials to lead lumber operations, inventory control, and purchasing at our Heber, UT location. You will supervise direct reports, drive customer service at the sales counter, and ensure accurate processing of lumber orders while maintaining safety and compliance standards.

You will coordinate with purchasing, receiving, and merchandising teams, manage accounts payable, and provide training and support on computer systems to location staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of lumber/millwork experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Oversee Lumber operations and direct reports including purchasing and scheduling.
• Manage lumber sales orders processing and cycle counting.
• Control lumber inventory and provide customer service.
• Oversee location receiving and retail floor operations.
• Oversee purchasing functions including internal transfers and vendor buys.
• Handle accounts payable for the location.
• Supervise sales counter staff and ensure excellent service.
• Provide computer systems training and support to staff.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews.
• Support all departments and cover when manager unavailable.
• Ensure safety compliance and uphold conduct standards.

JOB LOCATION

FUNCTION

The Operations Manager, Building Materials oversees the key administrative and operational functions, including: Lumber operations, paperwork flow, purchasing & receiving, inventory control, computer systems training, and A/P functions.

KEY ACTIVITIES

• Visualize, fulfill, and implement the company vision and core values;
• Oversee and manage Lumber operations and associated direct reports. This includes oversight of the following activities:
  • Purchasing of lumber products;
  • Scheduling of production;
  • Processing and scheduling of lumber sales orders;
  • Lumber inventory control including cycle counts;
  • Provide ongoing Lumber customer service.
• Oversee and manage location receiving functions and associated direct reports;
• Oversee location “retail floor” operations to include merchandising, organization, and cleaning;
• Oversee and manage location purchasing functions, including the following:
  • Intra company transfer processes;
  • Outside vendor purchasing processes.
• Oversee and manage location accounts payable functions;
• Manage sales counter employees to excellent customer service;
• Provide computer systems training and support for all location employees;
• Assist as needed with employee hiring, terminating, orientation, and performance reviews;
• Provide overall location support to all departments as required;
• Provide location management during times when location manager is not available;
• Ensure compliance with all operations safety requirements;
• Adhere to standards of conduct as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct;
• Perform other duties as assigned by location management.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Strong knowledge of Sunpro products and services, especially with regards to lumber;
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) as well as strong interpersonal and relationship building skills;
• Strong sales and customer service skills;
• Practical mathematic and measuring skills;
• Effective management skills;
• Able to function effectively as part of a high-performance production team;
• Ability to achieve performance objectives in a time-sensitive and quality-centered environment;
• Demonstrate initiative and reliability with minimal supervision.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
• 3-5 years’ experience in Lumber, Millwork, or a related field;
• Microsoft Office Suite, including: Work, Outlook, Excel, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Physical Work Requirements – Medium: exerting up to 25 lbs of force regularly;
• Repetitive motion associated with operating equipment;
• Regular exposure to the elements;
• Frequent bending, standing, lifting, and ongoing physical activity;
