Job Title: Operations Manager Assistant Electrical Controls Department

Job Description

The Operations Manager Assistant oversees the Electrical Controls Department and is responsible for managing day-to-day operations, leading project execution, and supporting a growing custom control panel business. This role ensures that engineering, production, testing, and shipping activities run smoothly, while providing strong people leadership, driving continuous improvement, and supporting future growth within a small, dynamic organization.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and support Electrical Controls Department personnel to ensure effective performance, professional growth, and achievement of departmental objectives.
• Review and approve employee time records, expense reports, and related documentation on a weekly basis to maintain accurate and timely reporting.
• Translate project specifications from awarded contracts into detailed engineering and production scopes of work, including preparation of commission sheets.
• Assign engineering resources to projects and lead project kick-off meetings with engineering and production teams to align objectives, timelines, and deliverables.
• Oversee project execution from initiation through completion, monitoring progress, mitigating risks, and ensuring adherence to delivery schedules.
• Review and approve design changes, coordinate implementation activities, and oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to confirm quality and performance prior to shipment.
• Collaborate with the Shipping Department to ensure all projects are shipped on time and in accordance with customer requirements.
• Coordinate with the Project Management Department to ensure adequate engineering support during equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up activities.
• Work closely with the Electrical Controls Department Sales team to review project costs, analyze production feedback, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support Customer Service activities by reviewing service requests, providing technical guidance, approving service documentation, and ensuring timely closure of service cases.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve departmental workflows, procedures, and best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability.
• Identify training needs and develop employee education and professional development plans for department staff.
• Conduct employee interviews, performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and career development discussions.
• Foster employee engagement by organizing departmental meetings, team-building activities, recognition programs, and employee appreciation events.
• Maintain and update the departments SharePoint site to ensure information is accurate, organized, and easily accessible.
• Promote and enforce a safe, quality-focused, and productive work environment while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
• Serve as the primary point of escalation for technical, operational, and personnel issues within the Electrical Controls Department.
• Manage the full project lifecycle for custom control panel projects, coordinating activities from Sales through Engineering, Production, Testing, and Integration.
• Contribute to operational and production management in support of a growing organization with multiple divisions in textiles and custom automation solutions.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of work experience in project management and in leading and managing employees.
• Four-year technical or engineering-related degree and/or equivalent experience.
• Industry knowledge and experience in electrical controls, with experience in controls engineering and industrial processes.
• Experience with custom control panel building and related operations management.
• Knowledge of UL508A standards, with UL508A MTR experience preferred.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage employees while fostering a positive, high-performance work environment.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and track multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and deadlines.
• Proficiency working with Windows, SharePoint, and common Microsoft Office products (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Experience in project phase execution and management, coordinating activities across Sales, Engineering, Production, Testing, and Integration.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in operations management within a small company environment of approximately 50+ employees and multiple divisions.
• Exposure to woven and non-woven textiles and custom automation solutions is beneficial.
• Experience in production management in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Ability to develop and refine departmental workflows, procedures, and best practices to support growth and scalability.
• Demonstrated strength in employee development, including training plans, performance evaluations, and career progression discussions.
• Comfort working closely with leadership in a small leadership team, with the potential to grow into expanded responsibilities over time.
• Interest in contributing to an organization targeting significant growth over the next several years.

Work Environment

This role operates in both office and plant floor environments within a campus setting. The office environment supports planning, coordination, and collaboration with engineering, production, sales, project management, and customer service teams. The plant floor environment is often noisy and dusty, reflecting active manufacturing and testing of custom control panels and industrial equipment. Work involves regular use of Windows-based computers, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office applications to manage projects, documentation, and departmental information. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $140000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
