Position Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day operational activities while supporting the growth and expansion of B&M Flagging Services. This role oversees workforce scheduling, field operations, safety compliance, customer service, and operational performance while actively building and maintaining customer relationships and identifying new business opportunities.

This is a hands‑on leadership position requiring strong operational management, problem‑solving skills, and a customer‑focused approach to support both service delivery and business growth.

Key duties and responsibilities:
Operations Management
  • Oversee daily field operations, scheduling, and deployment of traffic control personnel and equipment.
  • Ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with customer requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate staffing, fleet utilization, and resource planning to support project execution.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and service quality.

Business Development
  • Build and maintain relationships with contractors, utility companies, municipalities, and project stakeholders.

Customer Relationship Management
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned customers and partners.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met through effective communication and responsive service.
  • Resolve customer concerns and operational issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with field leadership to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop field personnel as business needs grow.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to employees.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Assist with workforce planning and employee development initiatives.
Safety
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, MUTCD, and customer‑specific requirements.
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain required operational records and documentation.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost management activities.
  • Review project performance and operational metrics.
  • Support invoicing, payroll coordination, and customer billing accuracy.
  • Track key performance indicators to support decision‑making and business growth.
Other:
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals, including tasks outside of the primary job function as operational needs evolve.
Qualifications
  • Experience in traffic control, construction, utilities, or related field preferred
  • Proven ability to build and lead operations in a startup or growth environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards (OSHA, DOT, etc.)
  • Experience with budgeting, business development, and operations management
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment
Required

Physical & Travel Requirements:

This role requires up to 30% travel, including overnight travel and occasional short‑notice travel during storm or emergency response events. Travel may include visits to project sites, utility partners, and corporate offices. A valid driver’s license and ability to travel by vehicle and air are required.

The position is primarily office‑based but includes periodic field visits to active construction and utility sites. Candidates must be able to sit for extended periods, work at a computer, communicate effectively, and occasionally stand, walk uneven terrain, climb stairs, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, high‑visibility vest, composite‑toe boots). Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally is required.

Storm Duty & Operational Support Requirement

As a company supporting critical infrastructure and emergency response operations, all employees share a responsibility to support storm restoration and emergency response efforts when activated. Storm duty may require extended hours, travel to affected areas, and temporary reassignment of duties to meet operational needs. While on storm duty, employees may be required to assist in functions outside of their regular role or department to support restoration, logistics, safety, or administrative efforts. Flexibility, teamwork, and a willingness to respond where needed are essential components of employment.
