Job summary

Our client is a large North American environmental services company providing solid waste collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal. This location is a combined hauling and transfer operation serving commercial, residential, roll-off, and municipal customers, with a significant book of city contracts anchoring the business.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a site leadership seat over a 23-route hauling and transfer operation - 7 front load, 11 residential, and 5 roll-off. The operation came in through an acquisition and is still being brought fully onto company systems, so a meaningful part of this role is finishing that transition: getting routes and services properly loaded, building out dispatch, and replacing manual workarounds and driver institutional knowledge with standardized processes.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

• - Own day-to-day operations of a combined hauling and transfer site — 23 routes across front load, residential, and roll-off
• - Lead, develop, and hold accountable drivers, dispatch, and supervisory staff
• - Serve as the operation's face to municipal customers - on-site at City Hall multiple times per week, maintaining working relationships with city clerk and city management
• - Manage the detail and service commitments that municipal contracts require
• - Finish the post-acquisition transition - get remaining routes and services properly loaded into company systems and driver tablets
• - Standardize operating procedures and eliminate manual workarounds and reliance on individual institutional knowledge
• - Build out the dispatch function - train, delegate clearly, and set expectations rather than absorbing the work
• - Drive route productivity, cost control, and equipment utilization
• - Enforce safety protocols and regulatory compliance across the site
• - Handle hiring, coaching, discipline, and performance management
• - Move initiatives forward and make decisions rather than letting issues sit

WHAT YOU BRING

• - Waste industry operations experience - hauling and/or transfer
• - Strong field operations knowledge; this is not an office- or administrative-based waste background
• - Proven people leadership - hiring, coaching, setting expectations, and holding a team accountable
• - Ability to lead and develop a dispatch function and delegate effectively
• - Process improvement mindset - experience standardizing operations and removing manual workarounds
• - Customer-facing presence polished enough to represent the company with city officials and municipal customers
• - Action-oriented and accountable - makes decisions and drives them to completion
• - Available for a typical 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM manager schedule (operation starts around 4:30 AM), with occasional Saturdays for holidays or roll-off/construction service needs

NICE TO HAVE

• - Background at a large national or regional waste operator in a field operations role
• - Direct experience managing municipal or city contracts
• - Experience integrating an acquired operation onto new systems, routing software, or driver tablets
