Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day activities of the business unit(s) including operations, maintenance, safety/compliance, equipment, and personnel.

  • Monitor operations to meet customer expectations for safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate maintenance to keep trucks and trailers in safe, legal, and operable condition and manage related costs.
  • Lead safety audits and promote safe work practices across the organization.
  • Direct reporting staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Drive open communication and collaboration across departments to improve workflow and resolve issues.
  • Leverage technology to streamline operations, recruiting, and overall efficiency.

Job description

Oversees and manages the day-to-day activities of the business unit(s), including but not limited to operations, maintenance, safety/compliance, equipment, and personnel. Overall operational administration and management of the business unit(s), ensuring smooth operations and efficient use of resources.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Manage budget, including expenses for staffing, maintenance, equipment, and supplies. Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Monitor operations, ensuring workload is completed by customer expectations efficiently, safely, and compliant with all applicable regulations
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to terminal operations, such as on‑time performance, customer satisfaction, and revenue generation. Implement strategies to improve performance and achieve operational goals.
  • Coordinate with themaintenance department to keep owned/leased trucks and trailers maintained, safe, and operating per federal, state, and local law while managing associated costs
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities to ensure that the terminal facilities and equipment are well‑maintained and operational. Schedule routine maintenance tasks and respond promptly to maintenance issues.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering exceptional service to all internal and external customers. Address concerns, complaints, and inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Planning, organizing, and managing direct reports to ensure work is complete and consistent with the company's standards.
  • Promoting safe work activities by conducting safety audits and attending company safety meetings
  • Lead and manage direct reports, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management. Ensure that employees adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. This may include implementing safety procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing insurance policies.
  • Foster open communication channels within the organization. Coordinate with different departments to ensure smooth workflow and resolve any issues.
  • Leveraging technology software and systems to streamline operations, recruiting, and improve overall efficiency.
  • Managing relationships with staff, customers, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations and cost‑effectiveness.
Skills and Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, plus five years of prior management experience in operational roles or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough understanding of transportation operations, including logistics, scheduling, safety regulations, and customer service principles.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve goals. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of tractor trucks and trailers
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations, codes, and safety standards
  • Budgeting and financial management skills
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyze data, and implement effective solutions.
  • Working knowledge of DOT information, programs, policies, and procedures preferred
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software
Physical Requirements:
  • Work is performed while sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at a time
  • Normal office environment and maintenance shop environment
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering shop floor equipment to access, inspect, or oversee shop work
  • Occasionally, it requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, gloves, etc.).
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals
  • Requires regular travel within and beyond typical service areas.
