Job summary

Software Placement Group in San Diego, CA, is seeking a senior-level Operations & Maintenance Technician II at a power generation facility. You will safely start, stop, and monitor plant equipment, read gauges, and maintain logs while adhering to NERC and ISO requirements and company procedures.

This full-time on-site role requires 10+ years of related experience, strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training or military service.
  • 10+ years of directly related experience in plant operations.
  • Experience with hazardous energy, chemicals, and waste materials.
  • Experience using testing equipment and calibration appliances.
  • Basic certifications/licensures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong mechanical, chemistry, physics knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, procedures, and manuals.
  • Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Start, stop, and monitor plant equipment, reading gauges and meters and recording activity in operating logs.
  • Use computers and monitoring systems to measure, record, and adjust operating parameters.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform overhaul maintenance and contribute to system improvement projects.
  • Assist in developing operational procedures and operator training modules.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and plant procedures, including NERC and ISO requirements.
  • Meet contract sales agreement requirements within safe and reliable operating limits during assigned shifts.
  • Independently prioritize and execute responsibilities, resolving complex technical issues with limited supervision.
  • Prepare, maintain, and provide reports and documentation as required.

Overview

A power generation facility operating an LMS 100 simple/combined cycle plant is seeking a senior-level Operations & Maintenance Technician II. This role is central to safely starting, stopping, and monitoring plant equipment, ensuring reliable and compliant operations, and supporting plant improvement initiatives across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.

What you'll do
  • Start, stop, and monitor plant equipment, reading gauges and meters and recording activity in operating logs
  • Use computers and monitoring systems to measure, record, and adjust operating parameters
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently
  • Perform overhaul maintenance and contribute to system improvement projects
  • Assist in developing operational procedures and operator training modules
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and plant procedures, including NERC and ISO requirements
  • Meet contract sales agreement requirements within safe and reliable operating limits during assigned shifts
  • Independently prioritize and execute responsibilities, resolving complex technical issues with limited supervision
  • Prepare, maintain, and provide reports and documentation as required
  • Communicate with the Balancing Authority using three-way communication protocols
  • Use email, MS Word, and MS Excel to communicate with the facility marketing team and update reports
  • Interpret and respond to visual and auditory control panel signals
  • Perform control room and outside operations of station equipment during routine, abnormal, and emergency conditions
  • Complete a qualification process demonstrating the ability to safely operate the power plant
  • Perform start-up, operation, monitoring, shutdown, and lock-out of auxiliary equipment
  • Operate plant mobile equipment such as forklifts and man lifts
  • Perform chemical analysis on plant water systems, including boiler water, demineralized water, condensate, feedwater, cooling water, and raw water
  • Operate and maintain reverse osmosis and cation/anion bed demineralizing systems
  • Perform maintenance and upkeep of site buildings and grounds
  • Be available for night, overtime, weekend, and holiday work as required
  • Support job responsibilities outside scheduled hours as needed
  • Travel occasionally as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required qualifications
  • High School Diploma, technical/vocational school degree, military service, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of directly related experience, including understanding of environmental and safety regulations and prior experience as a senior-level plant operator
  • Experience working with and around hazardous energy, chemicals, and waste materials
  • Previous experience using testing equipment and calibration appliances
  • Basic certifications/licensures
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with advanced understanding of chemistry, physics, electricity, and mathematics
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and make sound decisions
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact and communicate with individuals across the company and outside vendors
  • Basic computer knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Maximo, TK Pro, and similar programs
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to small groups of employees professionally and accurately
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures, and technical manuals
  • Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history, if applicable
Preferred qualifications
  • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college, trade school certification, or advanced education in mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation fields
  • Mechanical, Electrical, or I&C experience preferred
