Job summary

Nucor's Operations Leadership Program offers hands-on, region-based training in the scrap metal recycling industry. Participants rotate through logistics, operations, and maintenance while embracing a strict Safety First culture and OSHA standards.

The program emphasizes leadership development, problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration. Relocation is required after training, with company-paid moves, and frequent travel is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in a Business discipline, Operations, Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to adapt to changing assignments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate and work efficiently with team members.
  • Be able to make quick decisions with confidence in an ever-changing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and be expected to model our “Safety First” Culture including OSHA and Safety programs.
  • Exposed to all facets of the scrap processing and recycling business including buying and inspecting scrap, transportation and logistics, overseeing day-to-day operations, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Interact with various levels of corporate personnel, customers, vendors/suppliers, and teammates to resolve problems, and ensure steady delivery of products purchased or sold.
  • Collaborate with other managers to plan and direct work of the organization.
  • Identify trends and recommend proactive action to manage business situations.
  • Work with and through management to develop and implement actions that protect company assets and profitability.
  • Expect frequent travel.
  • Relocating after the program is required.
  • Expect to work outside in extreme weather conditions in an industrial environment.

Need to Know:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Safety is non-negotiable - Candidates must actively lead and uphold Nucor’s “Safety First” culture, including OSHA practices and daily operational safety standards.
  • No sideline sitting - Fully hands-on experience and fast-paced learning the scrap metal recycling business from the ground up, preparing you to step into a leadership role with a strong understanding of the entire business operation.
  • Demanding work environment - Expect frequent travel, working outside in extreme weather in an industrial work environment. This is not an office-based management-training program.
  • Relocation required - Mobility is critical; candidates must be willing to relocate to different regions after training based on business needs (company-paid relocation).
  • Develop skills that make great leaders - Be challenged to strengthen your communication, decision-making, relationship-building, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. Must be ambitious and willing to put in the work to grow these skills.

Future relocation to any listed locations is REQUIRED (company paid relocation, strictly based on business need)

The goal of the Operations Leadership Program is to thoroughly learn all facets of the scrap metal recycling industry from the ground up to assume a Leadership role upon completion.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • 12-18 months of hands-on, in-depth, fast-paced training in one Geographic Region.
  • Learn and be expected to model our “Safety First” Culture including OSHA and Safety programs.
